El Presidente Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I had one of the cigars of the year to date yesterday (OK...it was only the last day of February...but still!). The Romeo y Julieta Capuleto is going to be something very special. Right now it is decadent throwing together the best of R&J. Dark, deep and sweet. fruits, coffees, liquors. I even forgot it was a 53 gauge. if there was ever a cigar that could be shrunk while keeping its character (and most would fail) then this would be the one for me. Reduce the Capuleto to a Corona Gorda (46 gauge), release it in cabs of 50 and I am down for as many as I could lay my hands on. 2

jrusso14 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Pres, my thoughts exactly. Had one of these while outside the Hotel Nacional having a mojito(or three) and thought it was a very good cigar. I'm sure my smoking environment also had something to do with this Not often do I have time to smoke something of that size and if it could somehow shrink down a bit, I could definitely see myself smoking a lot of them. With that said, I did purchase a box and I am pretty excited to see how they will progress. In your mind, anything regular production wise that shares similar qualities?
BrightonCorgi Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Had one last June and it smoked well, but I wasn't get much discernible flavor from them.

(Even the United Nations got in on the act in 1979 for a concert for Kampuchea) Rob, I'm 100% with you. A 50 cab release of 46 ring gauge Corona Gorda...it would be just fantastic! 1
skalls Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I've only had a 1 mag 56 but I wish it was a lonsdale.
Popular Post Colt45 Posted February 28, 2017 Popular Post Posted February 28, 2017 Put it in cold water. Call the new size Costanza. 12
HarveyBoulevard Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I don't mind the 53...but I don't smoke RyJ for some reason. Only major marca I just don't seem to enjoy. Maybe its the burnt cherry flavors. I will give these a try though. The Mag 56 and the Topes (54rg?) both turned out great so maybe this one will also.

I currently have a box set aside for aging (TOS SEP 16). After reading the Presidente's opinion I may have to break in to it earlier than anticipated.

How shallow do you think I am?....don't answer that I had a look through some today but I have seen better and will wait until I come across exactly the ones I want.
GrouchoMarx Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I managed to get hold of a box of these when I was in "head office" back in December. I tried one just over a week ago - a truly fantastic stick that (I believe) will only get better with age. I'm figuring on trying another one in a couple months.
ebhead Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Have been looking forward to getting some. Hopefully some will be left when I go to Havana at the end of the month.
godpheonix Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 interesting notes Rob. i was not planning on getting any of these because of the 53 rg but maybe these are worth it. i must think on this some more...
Lotusguy Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 If they shrink them I still won't buy any, unless they cut the price in half at the same time. Decent cigar, no more, no less. Come to think of it, I'll just buy more Exhibition #4 which would still be cheaper. 1

Same experience here. Maybe the new batch is better. I just picked up a couple of Bolivar Tesoros from a local store. They look fantastic. And I am a big salomones fan. So high hopes for these.
SirVantes Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 My unqualified 2 cents: 1. Tactility is part of the smoking experience. How a cigar feels in my hand, and on my lips, contributes to the whole enjoyment quotient. I don't think I could ever "forget" that I dislike the RG, however good the other facets (taste, draw etc). Maybe in the days when overall quality was a crap shoot, I would have been grateful just for a tasty stick. But with the improvements in construction, the feel of the RG takes heightened importance. 2. How large a RG affects how wide you open your jaws, and changes how the draw hits the tongue and palate. Ken may be best placed to comment, as a wine professional - but wine drinkers have long been converted to the notion that the delivery affects taste. Imagine riesling, sauternes, port, all served in bulbous burgundy glasses. The interesting question may be: how many nuances are we missing out on when all this great leaf is being served up in the high 50s RGs?
