Popular Post El Presidente Posted September 8, 2016 Popular Post Posted September 8, 2016 Flat out today catching up with the 430 guess here in Bangkok. I will get to Pm's over the next few days so don't fret ....I can't do too much until I am back on Wednesday Di and i are staying at the Siam Kempsinki here in Bangkok. We have a great King room with balcony on the 11th floor overlooking the pool. Late last night I enjoyed half a HDM Prince and fired up another this morning while doing emails before being called away to catch up with Manu, father of the groom. Like most hotels in this region, there was a small cigarette ashtray on the outside balcony. Hey...I am just thrilled there was one. So Di and I arrived back this afternoon to the room which had been cleaned. I love this. They emptied the ashtray....but left the cigars as they did not think they were finished But better yet. Having worked out that I was a cigar smoker....they went the extra yard. 10 out of 10. I didn't ask for it...they just took it upon themselves. If you have any great examples of Hotel Cigar service you have received...let us know 17
LordAnubis Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Nice! Pics of Di in a Sari and you in a Sherwani or it didn't happen! 2

Ethernut Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Never had this happen! Pretty neat! Looking forward to some Pics @El Presidente! (not of you of course)
Jimmy_jack Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Service is king in my book. Great service is hard to come by now.
GavLew79 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Maybe not as great as yours but I appreciated it nonetheless... Waldorf Versailles, Feb 2016, Honeymoon. After a fantastic dinner, some Pouilly Fuisse and Bordeaux we retire and I'm craving a cigar, it's late. I phone reception... "Hello, do you have any matches please?" "Yes sir, in reception." "Am I allowed to smoke a cigar on the balcony?" "Sorry sir, the hotel is no-smoking, it is not permitted." "What about if I close the balcony door and make sure none comes in?" "Well, I guess you could...OK then." I virtually sprint to the lift. The receptionist has my matches ready with a wry smile. I gave the young lady a wide Churchill tubo for her trouble. Despite the fact it was -3°C I bloody enjoyed that smoke, overlooking the gardens and the pool, with whisky from the mini bar while my new wife lazed in the generous suite. 1
PigFish Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 ... was this before or after you set off the fire alarm? -R

One of the biggest problems in the states. Most hotels no longer let you smoke there and none in Illinois. Actually celebrated NYE at the Four Seasons cigar bar the last day it was open on 12/31/07 before they banned cigars in public places on 01/01/08. It was a memorable night.
Bob M Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Your story reminds me of my all time favorite quote from Walt Disney about how one should conduct themselves in business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sunsmoke Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 I just stayed at the Siam Kempsinki last weekend. Brilliant hotel, amazing pool area. Pricey 1897 Cigar Lounge though! Good thing you are stocked with your own!!
OZCUBAN Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Great stuff Rob ,what a point of difference good to see there's still some civilisation left in the world also give my regards to Manu and wish them well cheers
archosaur Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Great story Rob. Looks like a fantastic venue for a smoke! It is rare to feel welcome as a cigar smoker. The Royal Sonesta in The French Quarter didn't blink an eye when I had a cigar in their central courtyard, and they were nice enough to provide matches as well. Of course, we're talking New Orleans

Of course, we're talking New Orleans I love the Royal Sonesta. Stayed there many times. My first e-mail address that I ever had was bigeasybum@aol. Yes, it is New Orleans. The rules are completely different there. I wouldn't change a thing either.
RickHendeson Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 I see 2 cigars . . . you could have brought one for Manu.
PatrickEwing Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 I'm having an HDM San Juan (OPG Nov 14, I believe) right now at Domaine de Manville in Provence outside their bar. - May I have a drink please? - Yes sir. And a cutter for your cigar? Please have this ash tray. This was just after Chateau de Riell in the Pyrenees, which was just accomodating and the most interesting and fascinating hotel I've ever stayed in. There are still civilized people's out there! Vive le pays de Small Club!! 2
