Are Cigars Really Marketed This Way?

It has been a quarter century since tobacco advertising has been banned in Oz. Much of the world has followed suit and in my humble opinion it is a stretch when one can't even display cigars openly to customers seeking a cigar in many countries. 

I was reading this shallow as a saucer article this morning re the FDA ruling. No need to click on it but here it is if you wish.

Now, I am no prude as anyone who has hung out with me can attest 

Yet, images like these ....while possibly "alluring" really don't give our industry/hobby a gnats gonads chance at running a campaign stating that we are capable of self regulating to a mature standard. 

I understand that these are stock Getty Images. Yet I see similar images time and time again in mags, online sites and new/existing cigar marketing. 

When was the last time you saw a woman smoking a cigar this way?

I actually really hate "cigar culture" or I guess I should say marketing. It seems all cigar marketing is targeted at old fat white guys that wear a ton of gold. As a young fat white guy that doesn't wear gold I take offense. Seriously though it's one of the reasons I will not smoke in lounges, I find that a lot of the conversations, politics and general opinions of most people that hang out at these spots I disagree with on pretty much everything. This could honestly just be a New Jersey thing because it seems that cigar marketing is spot on with the "culture" around here in my experience.

Shallow?  The hack who wrote it clearly has had not much exposure to tobacco products.  The average price of a cigar really is more than the cost of a whole "box" of cigarettes? A box?  Really?

I find this strange. Alcohol advertising is shocking! There's a new program where group of people are at a bar with beers in front of them drinking said beers and talking about footy. I think this sort of advertising is targeted. To men. Sure it's pretty low. But atleast it's not available for children to see and learn from.

Well, a simple perusal on Facebook will show it must work. Cigar vixen has her tits out reviewing cigars quite frequently and I see PDR cigars just linked up with a chick who isn't afraid to show some skin. 

I think it's a cheap tactic to be honest.

There used to be a few sites online presumably peddling CC's and NC's (I wont name them though). 

IMO, any vendor selling cigars with such pictures I actually steered clear from thinking they were scams or at the very least, non legit
