dangolf18 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I find it very interesting that 12 year old bourbons are eclipsing 12 year old scotches in price. This got me thinking, what kind of spirit offers the best value at 12 years old. Doesn't necessarily have to be scotch or bourbon...can be anything from rum to calvados. 1
jwr0201 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Easy one... Zaya 12yr Fine Rum from Trinidad & Tobago. Deeeeelish! 1
JohnS Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hibiki 12 (Please Suntory bring it back!) and George Dickel Superior No.12 Tennessee Whisky (because it's one of my staple drinks.) The one 12 year old spirit I'd like to try is Lagavulin 12.
westg Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 tough one, at present Aberlour 12 sherry cask really liking it ...offers great value Balvenie 12 a another .. 3

TheMonk Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Lagavulin 12 YO. Now ask me what's my favorite 16 YO! 2
Phinz Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Redbreast 12. The 15 is fantastic, too, but a bit too spendy. 2
Rye Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 For value, Bowmore 12yr Really like the Lagavulin 12, but it is pricy here Zaya 12yr is a great rum when I have a sweet tooth acting up 1
KJND Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 William Larue Weller.... By a large margin over the next 12yr but I am more of a bourbon guy
creamypies Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Bowmore 12,Macallan 12, & Glendronach 12. Head and shoulders better than what we're putting out stateside relative to price.
spicycorona Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Redbreast 12. The 15 is fantastic, too, but a bit too spendy. Probably on board with the redbreast 12. 1
Surucipe Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Don't have to think twice about it, Lagavulin 12yo! 1
Notsocleaver Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Springbank 12 year cask strength isn't cheap, but is excellent and a good price point. Zaya rum would have been my budget answer, but I think they have quietly dropped the age statement. The bottle says blend of 12 aged rums, but it doesn't give the age anymore. Elijah Craig has done the same thing with their bourbon. Very disappointing. 2
Upmann2009 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hibiki 12 (Please Suntory bring it back!) and George Dickel Superior No.12 Tennessee Whisky (because it's one of my staple drinks.) The one 12 year old spirit I'd like to try is Lagavulin 12.G Dickel superior no 12 aged 12 years? They're on special in Dan Murphy. Cheers Jason

Lotusguy Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Weller 12. Where the heck do you get it for under $90??
sengjc Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Not really any one "favourite" per-se, instead here's a list of 12 year old spirits that I enjoy or have found to be really good: - Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak malt whisky from Speyside. - Caol Ila 12 Year Old malt whisky from Islay. - Aberlour 12 Year Old Non-Chill Filtered malt whisky from Speyside. - Miyagikyo 12 Year Old Japanese malt whisky. - Yamazaki 12 Year Old Japanese malt whisky. - Angostura 1824 12 year old rum (older square bottle with the red wax seal and all). - Elijah Craig 12 year old Kentucky bourbon. 1
JohnS Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 G Dickel superior no 12 aged 12 years? They're on special in Dan Murphy. Cheers Jason Cheers Jason. I think from what I've read online, it may be aged 8 to 10 years, so technically, it doesn't belong in this thread, and in comparison to many other fine spirits mentioned here I suppose it's nothing stellar, still, it's a drink I really enjoy.
sengjc Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Nearly forgot these ones: - Hazelburn 12 Year old malt whisky from Campbeltown. - Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength malt whisky from Campbeltown.
Easttide Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Where the heck do you get it for under $90?? If you time it right or have a good relationship with your local store manager, as I do in the Midwest 2-3 times a year, it can be purchased for $25-35.
JamesNYC Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Springbank 12 year cask strength is my clear favorite. Glendronnach 12 year very nice as well.
