I'm in the wine business in Virginia (USA) and an FOH member is one of our customers. He's been gracious enough to share some of his CCs and now I'm hooked.

Today, I received my first box (PSD4s) and am going to order some of the other "classic" CCs before venturing into some limited editions or regional releases. I just want to thank all of you who contribute to this great community. It's been a great source for a new smoker.

Best,
Michael

welcome.

when i lived in virginia/DC many years ago (back when the skins were a feared and successful team), there was a few terrific wine stores in DC i used to frequent. calvert woodley? something beginning with M? does not help much.

i lived in vacation lane, arlington but worked in DC. loved it.

Don't know him personally but I think of him as one of the more level-headed and thoughtful writers that contributes to Wine Spectator.

I've reached a point in my wine drinking where only one opinion matters...mine!

welcome aboard. As a avowed wino, I can tell you there is nothing better than having a great cc with a fine glass of wine, especially after a wonderful meal. Welcome to the world of decadence!

Hi Ken,

I know Calvert Woodley well. I'm guessing MacArthur's was the other shop you recall. I've enjoyed the banter between you and Rob in the YouTube videos. It reminds me of my purple toothed friends when we gather for a proper drinking here in the states.

Best,
Michael

So true. Point scores and reviews miss out on the context. If I'm eating fish tacos on a beach I don't want a 100 point Napa Cab. A beer will do me fine.

Since I have the ear of some wine guys. I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a "corked" cigar? Not literally of course, but a similar issue that would render an otherwise high quality stick disappointing.

None that I can think of off the top of my head that really correlates - it would be something like a poorly sealed humidor allowing exposure to something "off".

There is of course improper leaf processing (fermentation etc), but that might fall under production issues. And shipping / storage conditions, but I guess that would be a handling issue.

Welcome to FOH Michael.

As for "corked cigars" the one thing that comes close is when a cigar goes through a "sick period". A cigar or an entire box will give off an ammonia smell. This happens if the leaf undergoes another fermentation process. On the plus side, this is not a permanent state like a corked wine. Those cigars will settle down over a few months and be enjoyable and possible even better. :)

Perhaps some of the odd flowery-perfumed sticks when the roller just lotioned her hands... lmao.gif
