This is why I love MMA. Even young up and coming fighters can catch a veteran champ at the top of their game off guard and come out on top. Devastating loss and the bookies in Vegas are feeling it. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ufc/2015/11/15/ronda-rousey-holly-holm-las-vegas-sports-books-bets/75822360/

Rematch should be very different.

i was a fan of rousey until this fight. she acted like a child at the weigh-in. then she didn't touch gloves. then she hit holly after the bell in round 1. that's bush league. rousey came in cocky thinking she could be a world champ kickboxer and a world champ boxer at her (holly's) own game. i was glad she lost, and expected it. my only regret is that i didn't on holly. rematch will be very different, i agree!

The after-shock of this match was felt all the way in Afghanistan lmao :) Even some of the Afghans were wondering what happened :D

i know nothing about this and who should have won etc. and if it entertains some, good luck to it and them - and it obviously has a serious following. personally i'm about as likely to watch this as i am synchronised swimming but each to their own.

i did note (and this is not to denigrate the contest or whose who enjoy it) that on an otherwise serious sports program, pretty much right after the news about the tragedy in paris, they were described as 'wonderful role models'. enjoy the 'sport' all you like but when two women beating the crap out of each other become wonderful role models, any wonder that the world is in chaos.

So much for being overconfident Rousey......

Would never usually watch it either ...with all the hype my wife and I forked out the $49'95 to watch it ..I thought all the men's bouts were d grade ...and that Hunt fellow from Australia saying he was in the best shape of his life, well I guess dieting on pizza and beer goes a lot further for some than others

I thought the two women's bouts were far better than all of the men's.... and I can't see the rematch being that different, Holly Holm wiped the floor with Rhousy . For someone who has dominated a sport for so long she was made to look like a real fool ...I really liked the way Holm went about it after the fight as well. Rhonda couldn't say to much because she was asleep.

I think Holm could knock the living Christ out of most of the men on that card .lmao.gif

Good luck to her

I have to quietly and mutedly admit that I'm zoomed all the way to the ceiling with glee, myself, just like Meisha Tate and Christine Cyborg at Holly Holm's win over Rousey. Just like everybody's saying, "guess she's human after all!" I didn't get over excited about this match because I just expected it to go like all the others...no matter how promising, these other female fighters just fell like bowling pins in a strike to Ronda Rousey. So when I flipped over to Fox Sports Post Fight coverage, I expected to see the nonchalant responses of all the, "Oh well - here goes another..." and HOLY FRIJOLE`!!!!!! surprised.gifsurprised.gifsurprised.gifsurprised.gifsurprised.gifsurprised.gif HOLM WON! Lip biting mutedness on my part TRYING not to gloat with so many others. No, Ronda's never done anything to me - never met the champion. But like Lady Gaga observed, Rousey's refusal to touch gloves at the opener; when she'd beaten Meisha Tate previously and wouldn't show any sportsmanship to Tate's attempts to be respectful and sportsmanlike to her...these things can and do just leave a sour taste in one's mouth. And already certain camps (like promoters) rushing too fast in talking about "rematch"; look - let everybody, including Holm, herself, revel in celebration for the moment. Ahhhhhh.....daydream.gif2thumbs.gif

Can't say I'm a big UFC/MMA fan but I'm always somewhat interested in big events so I tuned in for the 10 minutes for free.

Was very surprised how unprepared and desperate Rousey looked. She really got worked. Very poor showing for a presumably disciplined, prepared athlete. Holm had a good showing and appeared to stick to her plan and it worked so good for her. She looks like a good fighter. But the best opponent should be able to exploit your game plan and at least hang in. I think Rousey really disappointed her fans.

And I don't mind the trash-talking and disrespectfullness on Rousey's part so much but you had better back it up if you're going to do it. Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Larry Bird all talked big, guaranteed victory and trash-talked but they always delivered the goods and never looked like fools. I think Rousey's ego may have gotten a bit inflated over the years.

...AND he has a 11 win / 10 loss fight record. Shocked as heck that Dana White still has him on his active fighter's list for current bouts.

I thought the Aussie Whittaker fought really well. He's got a way to go to be in contention but really impressed. It's a shame Bigfoot Silva didn't come to play. He was just collecting a check I reckon. It even looked like he took a dive. Hunt glanced the top of his head and he went to ground too easy. Then again, a jolt from hunt would be like copping it from a sledge hammer. Rousey has always been vulnerable to strikers in my opinion. Being a Judo champ she often tosses opponents when they get too close. But Holm played a great game; keeping her distance with her range advantage. I had a feeling Holm would fight well but I still thought Rousey would eventually get her hands on her and win by submission, unless Holm got in a good shot through Rousey's open guard. But Holm just stayed focussed and used her range magnificently and Rousey I think panicked. Holm I think has the same striking coach as Jon Jones and she completely outclassed Rousey with her movement and hand speed. Rousey got hit by the south paw Holm too easily with straight lefts that weren't at the end of combinations just out of the blue. It's very insulting to a boxer to get hit like that so easily down the pipe and I think Rousey knew it and lost it. Ali did that to opponents to show his dominance. Holm will be a very rich girl me thinks. Rematch in Vegas hopefully.

Forget the kick, Holm's boxing skills won that bout. Rousey looked well out of form.

Don't know why anyone would've thought this was going to be all Rousey's way. Holm has a helluva lot of experience in the ring. Maybe not MMA experience (3 less bouts than Rousey), but she has over 30 boxing matches under her belt (with the majority being wins).

KG, with no antagonism, would it have been OK if it were men? But more to the point. if it's the media calling them role models, then that's all I need to know......

Those are great stats Fosgate but did you expect her reign to last forever with the same move.

Come on guys.... Talk all the **** you want, everybody gets dethroned eventually. Talking **** is how you make money in this sport. That's what it's all about. Your career is very short and confidence is intimidating in the world of fighting!

I'm more of a lurker/purchaser here than a poster but I feel the need to chime in here.

Rhonda got cocky, it happens with champs that defend titles/decimate most opponents. But hold off on the Mischa Tate/no sportsmanship thing. Anybody who actually watched the ultimate fighter that they were coaches on saw the real Tate. She's one evil Cee U Next Tuesday. She said some really atrocious things about Rousey.

As for Holm, the first round was a strait counter strike and run away game plan. Much like Machita, and early Anderson Silva, she just countered and backed away. Which Rousey played right into. Rousey looked out of shape and not focused, maybe the celeb life got to her. Hopefully Tate has a chance to get destroyed by Holm before there's any talk of a rematch.

what about that elbow flush on the jaw ...her boxing was very impressive but it was that kick that put her to sleep ...she didn't even see it coming.

Any body remember Kung Lee? Untouchable as an MMA fighter UNTIL he ran to monetize his new fame, for which I don't blame him...but just stay in Hollywood! He got the same treatment as Ms. Rousey when he attempted a return to the cage. Ronda sure looked the part, until the fight startedshead.gifphotog.gifperfect10.gif

While you grab the money, that gym rat is training their butt off and plotting your demise!

I never liked her because of her attitude. AWEFUL sportsmanship, and didn't care. Never touched gloves with any of her opponents or shook their hand afterwards. It was a prime example of what NOT to do! And the hype was unreal. Especially the part about her boxing over the last year. Her coach was saying she could be a world champion in boxing. And who could forget the commercial or clips of her hitting the mitts? Shame mitts don't hit back!!

And ridiculous that no one before now defended either the take down or the arm bar!! Person after person would get to rolling around and would freely leave their arm exposed.

Last but not least, all but 2 of her opponents were trash! That's hard to dispute. Womens MMA has a LONG way to go..like a good number of sports females have just ventured into. That's why it makes no sense to compare her accomplishments to anything or anyone outside of women and MMA.
