garbandz Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Just do not see the point, from a price point they are way out of my league. Anyone think these are worthy?
JohnS Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 "To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune, Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles..." What is the point? Yes...it's an age-old question. Sometimes, there are no clearly definable answers. 1
Lotusguy Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Just do not see the point, from a price point they are way out of my league. Anyone think these are worthy? They also taste like generic LE with no RyJ DNA. The new Cedros Deluxe LCDH however, are stellar!
NSXCIGAR Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 They also taste like generic LE with no RyJ DNA. The new Cedros Deluxe LCDH however, are stellar! An LE with none of the marca's DNA? Inconceivable! I'd love to be a fly on the wall and see these guys all sit around with the cigars they've dubbed this year's LE and discuss what band they're going to slap on this time. I'm convinced it's simply a picking out of a hat sometimes... Glad to hear the Cedros Deluxe aren't a bust. Been unusually looking forward to trying them.
sactochris Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I will let you know. The box I ordered from our host was just delivered a half an hour ago.
Smallclub Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Anyone think these are worthy? Worthy, I don't know, but I know the Hermoso No1 LE (2003) and Hermoso No2 LE (2004) were well received in Europe… then an other LE in a similar size isn't really surprising… but who remembers that the H1 and H2 were priced in the "vicinity" of the RyJ churchill…?
maxcjs0101 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 They also taste like generic LE with no RyJ DNA. The new Cedros Deluxe LCDH however, are stellar! I've never tasted an LE before as its way past my budget for one. Could you describe how a 'generic LE' stick tastes like? Thanks.
NSXCIGAR Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Worthy, I don't know, but I know the Hermoso No1 LE (2003) and Hermoso No2 LE (2004) were well received in Europe… then an other LE in a similar size isn't really surprising… but who remembers that the H1 and H2 were priced in the "vicinity" of the RyJ churchill…? I very much liked the H1 and I recall they both were very reasonably priced. I definitely thought it was one of the best LEs ever. The Dukes (2009) are also quite good but a little too light for me. But very, very smooth with RyJ DNA. I've never tasted an LE before as its way past my budget for one. Could you describe how a 'generic LE' stick tastes like? Thanks. "Muddled earth" is the best way I can describe the generic LE flavor, at least for me. No discernible pleasant flavors, some earthiness but by earth I mean dirt. Maybe a bit of mushroom. Can be a bit spicy but there's really nothing redeeming. And they frequently have burn issues, primarily due to overly thick wrappers. They also seem to have a peak window of 3-7 years and decline after that. I know the 00 Party Piramides have pretty much lost their mojo and that was widely considered the best LE of the era. I can pretty much count on one hand the LEs that were great. 00 Party Piramides, 01 Cohiba Piramides, 01 PSD3, 03 & 04 RyJ Hermosos, 07 HdM Regalos, 08 Monte Sublimes, 09 RyJ Dukes, 11 Cohiba 1966, 12 Monte 520. OK, two hands. 15 years goes quick. Haven't had the Party or Cohiba 14 LEs so I have no opinion on them yet but the Bolivar SC I didn't like.
Drguano Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I just so happened to to be smoking a single that I picked up a while back. It is not doing much for me. I keep waiting for something but...
jp1979 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 The 04 RyJ EL is one of my favorite smokes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
LGC Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I've never tasted an LE before as its way past my budget for one. Could you describe how a 'generic LE' stick tastes like? Thanks. You could equate it to over-roasted Charbucks beans dripping in oil... compared to properly roasted coffee at a city to full city profile, where "bright" and subtle flavors are allowed to come through.
Puros Y Vino Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I like this stick. It is very reminiscent of RyJ Dukes EL 2009. Almost the same tasting notes from my comparison. If you like the Dukes and ran out of them, this is the stick for you. Otherwise, don't break the bank on them. 1
sactochris Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I had one rott last night and enjoyed it very much. I think they still maintain a fair bit of the R&J flavor profile coupled with the typical sameness of your average EL. I don't know if I will buy a second box but I will enjoy the box I have.
alloy Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 They also taste like generic LE with no RyJ DNA. The new Cedros Deluxe LCDH however, are stellar! I acquired a box of these from somewhere else since they sold out so quick on the 24:24. Sat in the wineador for three weeks and I tried one out on the patio during this nice little heat wave (70*) and yes, it was stellar. 1

I've always kept quiet about not understanding the appeal of many of the LEs out there.

I didn't like the Duke either (albeit slightly more than the RyJ Deluxe), so I would concur with the above 1
