I would choose the following:

1) Bolivar Gold Medal

2) Montecristo Sublimes

3) Cohiba 1966 LE's

4) Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo des Dieux (only because I haven't seen them around in awhile and I miss them!)

John:

Your number 2 & 3 have always intrigued me. I am interested in what you like about the

Montecristo Sublimes and Cohiba 1966 LE.

You seem to know how to pick out the subtle nuances of many different Cuban Cigars.

Yet in this instance, you picked out these four. Please share with me what you love about them.

I feel very badly that I'm forgetting to add the Upmann Monarchs, but I'm not sure what I would sub out, so I'd leave it to chance.

Yes, I prefer them over the Sr. Winnie's I've had

Going by what I like.

  1. Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo des Dieux - 50 Cab if possible (always need more)
  2. Partagas Serie du Connaisseur No.1
  3. Cohiba DC LE 2003
  4. PLPC - 50 Cab

However, I would gladly give up the lot for 100 bundle each of the Czar customs.

My pleasure. I must admit that the main reason I chose these four was due to sentamentalism, the romantic notion of reaching for the very best cigar experience.

The Bolivar Gold Medal was discontinued in 2011, and sadly is before my time. Even though the Bolivar marca is not one of my favourites, I'm not beyond wanting to see this come back as it was critically admired/respected amongst enthusiasts when it was re-released in 2007. Alas, not a huge seller and greatly missed since production stopped four years ago.

The Montecristo Sublime made me appreciate the subtlety possible in a Montecristo cigar. This was smoother and lighter than your standard Montecristo offering, which often has an abundance of flavours and complexity. I guess I could have chosen the Montescristo 520, or perhaps the Grand Edmundo, alas I went for the Sublime as I have sampled this cigar, unlike the others.

The Cohiba 1966 LE is possibly the smoothest, mildest and most enjoyable cigar I have ever savoured. It was gifted to me by our dear friend Trevor (founder of Cuban Cigar Website and a wonderful mentor) and to me it represents the epitome of what this hobby is about, the enjoyment of fine cigars and fine friendship, loyalty and the commitment to share with others one's passion of this pursuit.

The Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo des Dieux was gifted to me by Fuzz (our resident moderator, and another dear friend and mentor) the first time I met him in person. Well, I've been trying to similarly emulate this cigar experience ever since. The Le Hoyo line I find is slightly sweeter and less woody than the standard light-bodied Hoyo de Monterrey cigar, especially when aged. I must admit, I have greatly enjoyed a few San Juans this year, and like others on our forum, I patiently await some more des Dieux stock coming in (whenever that is!)

Cuban cigars, at their finest, should be savoured. There is nothing like a smooth, mild offering smoked slowly, maintaining coolness, burning consistently, finely-constructed, and simply requiring the participant to sip on each draw, with volumes of smoke produced with utter effortlessness. Alas, reality is somewhat different, but these are the things I aspire to when I enjoy a cigar.

Ya'll know the '03 Cohiba Double Coronas and the '04 Cohiba Sublimes go at auction for USD $3000-$4000 a box, right?

In the very unlikely event something like this actually happens, for Francisco Fonseca's sake! Don't walk over dollars to pick up pennies!
