jp1979 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Hello all, looking for an off the wall box to share with friends after a day of golf, hiking, etc.... Something that they typically wouldnt see on their own. Read some reviews of these and they sound like they will fit the bill, curious if we have any current owners in the house with an opinion one way or the other please? Thanks in Advance Justin
santela Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Only had the Des Dieux, one of my favorites.
jp1979 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 well thats a start.... i have had neither and not afraid to buy blind.... am afraid to buy 2 blind though
El Presidente Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Both are cigars that benefit from serious age (7 years +). The Dieux is on the vanilla end of the spectrum at that age. tons of it. the Roi more of a cedar bent with cream.
westg Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Two of my absolute favourites may as well go for the des Dieux you might find it a little hard to find a box of the other
Boosted Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Never had a Du Roi, but I absolutely adore the Des Dieux. I can't speak to how great they are with serious age because I have never had a box of Des Dieux last more than 2 years. Here's hoping Prez will get some Des Dieux in soon.
JohnS Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Two of my absolute favourites may as well go for the des Dieux you might find it a little hard to find a box of the other That's correct. The Du Roi was discontinued in 2009 right?
sengjc Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Des Dieux always. Best with some serious age.
Lotusguy Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Des Dieux all the way. I enjoy both but the format of the Des Dieux is pretty much perfect for my taste.
Smallclub Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Hoyo du Roi = Hoyo du Bois = wood, wood and more wood. Bleh. Hoyo des Dieux is much better.
garbandz Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 des Dieux wins by a landslide, one of my faves. And when you see some, move fast, they come and go quickly...........
Sophistic Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Des Dieux but both need 5+ years to become good. 6y Du Roi > 3y Des Dieux
jp1979 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Awesome. Thanks all for the replies. Des Dieux it is.
jay8354 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 des dieux with some serious age is a glorious thing to behold and smoke
PigFish Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I am rather fond of the du Roi. There is one thing that I think earmarks the Le Hoyo series and that is a lot of variation. Basically, it really depends on the box. I have been smoking through a ton of du Rois that I bought some years ago, that I bought really reasonably. I have yet to find a bad one in the bunch. I have found that there are some pretty distinct camps about the Le Hoyo series, and many don't like them. Again, I think that this has a lot to do with the variations amongst the breed. I have had bad luck with the du Prince and the Gourmet, for example. And there are a lot of folks who really like them. Best of luck on your selection. -Piggy
