I would imagine Cuban cigars would have to be sold in LCdH shops in the U.S. just like they are in the rest of the world.

Do you realize that there are no LCDH in Spain and France, the two largest markest in Europe?

Just thought that I would add a note to this. Here in Toronto Havana House and the LCDH here have had a fairly steady supply of Cohibas of all vitolas over the last 6 months.

How much do cohibas cost in Canada? I am betting your supply is because your demand is quite low.

Cheers Tom.

Canada has always had a good relationship in terms of cigar supply. When you are in next, can you check a few of the date codes for me and shoot me a PM if they are in the last quarter of 2014 (or early 2015).

If they are I will start agitating my end lmao.gif

I was told last year in Cuba and again this past February that wrappers were gone and people would be off work longer. Also read a report on wrappers shortages keeping the factory closed which is why the updates were done at the factory. There was an article on the net and from habanos but official or not I couldn't say.

I hope this means my siglo vI's are worth double now.

Prices are higher than most other countries but at the LCDH I work at we continue to get new supply of cohibas from the Canadian distributor Havana house.

*NC retailers are already asking if I want to be on list for when CCs are available in their stock.

Getcha popcorn ready.

I'd guess this is a marketing gimmick of the top draw, can't blame them for trying though!

I can also see them using this action like a thermometer to test the sentiment/economic leanings. Let's see how many of our current customers are interested in Cuban cigars so we can get an idea of how many we're going to lose to the Habanos corporation once the Embargo drops.

Could it be that next year being 1966 50th anniversary, that they are all being carefully loaded into pyrotechnic tubos, to be lit up at sky high premiums, concluding with a bursting hemisherical puff, glitterising the marketing world that was nc. That would be a limited edition firestorm, with an extra brass band, and a red ornamental tassel.

Here is what I have in recent months. All rumour mill. Nothing definitive.

Shortage of leaf

Leaf being sold abroad for making cigarettes

El laguito being renovated in anticipation of 50th anniversario

Cohibas are being stockpiled in Cuba in anticipation of US visitors and will likely mean a significant price increase.

I've been told that the Illuminati bought all the good tobacco, with the help of the Mossad. I'm not sure that's true :lol3:

How do I join?

The embargo will end just before the 50th. They are stock pilling and aging for the us market. 100% price increase or it just good old Cuban management.

Maybe they are stockpiling so they can cut out overseas middlemen, and sell directly to the American tourist hoards on the island at full retail.

Look at the weather/harvests for the past couple of years and no surprises - Cohiba suffers first - the leading brand?

what i have heard from official channels is this is an issue of the wrapper shortage as well the closure of the factory for major repairs. the combination of the two have lead to a major shortage.

Wrapper shortage was the rumor du jour for most of 2014 wasn't it? Large format cigars were going to disappear, etc., and here were are awash in Churchills and Double Coronas.

My view is that why Cohibas are in shortage currently is a mystery, all I know is that when I see the Cohiba Siglo VI (the 'bread and butter' Cohiba cigar) in quality supply again, then I'll know that there is no more shortage! snooty.gif

for normal company, if the trend is your item is going rise up, there's no need to roll your goods that hurry, embargo and Cohiba 50th are waiting there, store some quality leaf for the high rocketing era (may last 2-3 years) can guarantee your bank account filled with currency.

My guess is they're hoarding them to sell at a grossly inflated price to America when they can start shipping there.

I was talking to the sub-agent for Habanos in Gibraltar last week. He hasn't since a Cohiba box with this year's date on it yet.

I did a bit of research in our own supply here in MTL and:

Most of my línea clasica stock is 2013 except all Espys are FEB 2015, Plenty of Nov 14 siglo I and DIC 14 siglo IV.

Also just got some FEB 2015 SIGLO II this week as well
