El Presidente Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I received the below e-mail this morning and with the permission of the sender have posted it here for member input. The more heads the better as they say. "Rob, I am looking to lay down some cigars for 5 years and am looking for your input as to selection of boxes that you believe will be "sure fire winners" in 2018-20. I have no intention of touching them but just put them in the walk in humidor for that period of time.Say around $1500 to spend." There are so many that are smoking well young but what in your opinion and from what you have purchased in 2013/14 stock would you regard as dead set likely to being a 95 point cigar with 5 years down. Assume perfect wrappers and construction. Pick for me up to 5 Boxes of 2013/14 cigars that you would put money on being absolute crackers in 5 years. As always, I appreciate the input

Maestroso Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Partagas Lusitanias '14, assuming you can get the wrappers that are both maduro-dark and oily. (PMU '14 saw some great boxes) Punch DC with oily wrappers, medium to dark is fine. (TUP not recommended (even in PSP grade), go for MOB '14 or other) Bolivar BF and Montecristo No.2 '14, if dark and oily. HDM Epicure Especial, dark wrappers. From personal experience, these age beautifully. I would sure put my money on cabs of '50 for the DCs vs. dress box if long-term aging is the goal. BBF and Epicures also come is SLBs. These five are what I always keep for long-term. P.S. NO to HDM DCs. Experience shows however tan and sexy the wrappers, aging doesn't do much to this blend.
Cornell Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Bold, full cigars. RA, Boli, Partagas and some Cohiba (Siglos, Robusto, Esplendido).
