A good friend brought out some fun bottles this weekend.

This bottle will be deeply missed once emptied.

Family still here for the 4th celebration. Dinner tonight was sous vide Chuck Roast at 132 degrees F for 24 hours and then seared in garlic butter in cast iron. Served with a 2008 Chappellet Pritchard

Noon whistle “edible gummy” aroma is hoppy skunk almost like g13.  Light & refreshing mostly a citrus lemon ? hoppy profile. Canned 4/17/19; can says drink by 7/17/18.. not bad not great. I feel honestly the aroma and smell are the the best part.

One of my favorites. Pick up a case if you like big fruit, licorice, earth, leather, game meats, briar patch stems... sounds wonderful right? 2015 a solid year in Rhône. This is all Syrah grapes, or Shiraz for you mates. 6 months in new oak. It ain’t Penfolds but a Ridiculous bargain at <$20 USD. Cheers

I'm starting to think i drink too much ..these hop butchers are so flavorful.. puts the old stand by maple wood son of juice to shame. It’s almost like nc vs cc. No contest. Oh well we all have our weaknesses. Cheers ? E4158A34-6291-4CFD-BB73-9BA186A7708E.thumb.jpeg.bae1555e64ddd4448130f60f9bd235b4.jpeg13EEC365-B44E-4C96-96DD-64EC2B40E027.thumb.jpeg.8200f372bed9691e83e41c52f59ba731.jpeg07CB5BAA-0322-4449-B18D-0C65E7B9D483.thumb.jpeg.b770b1d6a5dafe3a4a02a35939a9a798.jpeg

Went to Jackalope restaurant on the weekend and had the degustation menu which was fantastic. 2015 was a very good year in the Mornington Peninsula and this chardonnay was superb. I can recommend any visitors to Melbourne perhaps add a night in the hotel, enjoy the restaurant and of course, the wine.

Trying this on a friend's recommendation. Not bad, a little hot.

Interesting, never found that one hot, but what you consider hot and I consider hot are probably 2 different things. I will have to re-sample..... FOR SCIENCE!

Loved this Malt. The triple wood takes a bit of the normal peat down from an 11 to about a 7 and adds some more dimensionality for me. Great neat despite the expected heat at 48%. Excellent

Basil Hayden’s bottles rye whiskey and rum blend

5th June, 2019 by Melita Kiely

Bourbon brand Basil Hayden’s has created a rye whiskey and rum blend, called Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye.

Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Rye Reserve is bottled at 40% abv

Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye is a blend of eight-year-old Kentucky straight rye whiskey and four-year-old Canadian rye whisky.

Black Strap Rum is then added to the blend, which is said to give notes of brown sugar and molasses to the final product.

Bottled at 40% abv, the expression is available throughout the US for a limited period, priced at RRP US$44.99 per 750ml.

Rob Mason, vice president marketing, whiskey, at Beam Suntory, said: “With the release of Caribbean Reserve Rye we wanted to give our fans a fun whiskey expression that you can bring out and share during warmer weather occasions, whether that’s mixing it up at an outdoor barbecue or gifting it for a housewarming celebration.

“As a brand that has always broken traditional whiskey expectations, we’re excited to help our fans discover new, interesting ways to enjoy the rye category and Caribbean Reserve Rye does just that.”

The liquor store I got it, said it literally showed up with deliveries on Saturday. He put it on the shelf and people were limited to 1 per person. Going to try and go back this morning and see if I can snag 1 more. It is pretty tasty. Some vanilla, spice, a bit of oak, and on the finish, all rum, totally get the brown sugar and molasses like sweetness.

The shop that I work with just got this in, I had to try some. This was really good, unlike the regular rye which I can only drink one dram of, because it's so sweet. This had the sweetness, but it didn't overpower me. I could drink 2-3 drams in one setting of this. Don't be afraid of the Bourbon/Canadian Rye.......it's really nicely balanced imo. Thanks for posting the info on this fine spirit Ken.

Pine in a NEIPA? Blasphemy. That's just a west coast ipa with clouds... seriously looks like a good one though. As a homebrewer I been trying to perfect this style without making a starch bomb. It's a difficult craft.

This one is a DIPA. Says on bottom of the can. You have to look close but most beers they make “look “ like NEIPA’s. Seems like hop butcher is jumping in the NEIPA “look” almost all the way. They brew from 1-3 a week now. Have ramped up their production a lot. Used to be about 1-3 every 3/4 weeks. They actually were renting space at breweries at first and now seem to have purchased/leased a smaller space to perfect their craft. In general their flavors are super fresh, juicy, melon, citrus, stone fruit and tropical. They also add lactose and hop oils in certain ones. This one and a few more have some pine notes in them Which i like personally; tastes more like a “beer”. If this makes sense ? Never a mention of IBU’s they seem to be brewing for flavors and smoothness as opposed to older school of thought towards bitter hop forward flavors.
The craze is real here in Chicago literally must purchase within 2-3 hours of delivery to get your hands on them.
I would say by far the best line up of beer going in the Midwest that I can source. Limit 1 four pack per person and usually each one is brewed about every 8 months. So if u love it you have to wait to get it again.
Great business plan to create a want and desire.
I can’t speak in brewing b/c That’s not my skill set but I trust your expertise. I have had many that want this taste but can’t reach it.
If u achieve it send samples please
Cheers

Red Sox vs Rangers and a simple Beam old fashioned.

I prefer using "accessible" bourbons for my Old Fashioneds as well.  Just switched from Beam to Evan Williams Black, and I've been extremely impressed.  Such a good value.

I also do a similar setup with the Braves, but I just listen to the radio broadcast on the MLB app.  Baseball and cigars are such a good pairing!
