Popular Post GavLew79
Looks like I'm the eager beaver again! After my poor effort in the first, my confidence was renewed before even lighting this. I mean, Robustos are my vitola man! This should be a doddle... Before lighting, based on vitola I reckon I've pinned it down to three possibilities, plus an outsider that I've ruled out. You wouldn't force one of those on us Pres, would you? Anyway as I smoked it, I managed to convince myself, at different points in the smoke, that it was ALL THREE of the buggers! You might get that impression from the tasting notes. So, I don't really have a clue... Appearance: Medium Colorado (I think this might rule out one of my choices), slightly battered. Aroma at cold is cedar/woody Pre-light taste is smooth and woody sweet First few puffs: Woody, slightly grassy-sour, basically pungent sappy wood First third: Predominantly woodiness all the way through, with a lingering aftertaste of coffee and nuts. Wonky burn needs a touch up. Second third: Still pretty linear, no real development apart from some more pronounced nuttiness, maybe cashews? Burn issues encountered again plus a weird side-tunnel. The smoke is almost textured, leaving a coating on the tongue. Final third: a fleeting hint of shortbread. Here it gets interesting; complexity in full swing, broadening into spices, leather, darker notes of earth, fruit pudding and delicious sweetness builds. If it stayed like the first two thirds then I'd have given it an 87/88 but the last third was its saving grace, virtually nubbed it! Delicious. 91/100 overall (last third 93/94). Still no clue. I'm going to toss a coin between two.

Popular Post bradbrennan
Very nice breakfast smoke! Seasoned my palate first with a wonderful homemade caramel roll followed by a couple eggs over easy with dry toast. Paired with water. Thought I knew this cigar from cold nose and draw, hints of sweetness, slight chocolate. But shortly after first light it moved into something different. Not my regular rotation smoke but it may be in the future if my guess is correct. Really nice draw, and lots of darker smoke. Nice transitions throughout, but slight spice, dry toast and hints of nuts all the way to the nub. Hints of sweeter spice on the nose. A very enjoyable hour and forty minutes! Pretty certain of the cigar but have to smoke two or three more in the very near future to compare.

Popular Post Rye
I smoked cigar no.2 this morning. A beautiful, but ultra thin Colorado claro wrapper showing nice oily sheen, perfectly packed, and only fine veining. The band took two fair chunks of wrapper leaf with it when removed, but once punched with my 11mm punch, it revealed a perfectly firm draw from the very flat triple cap. First light, and initial puffs were very mild but had a distinct sweetness. Continuing flavours and evolution in this smoke, starting with sweet grass and baked goods, and gradually increased in power & flavour throughout. After the half, a bit of young tobacco taste, but mildly so, and occasional orange rind like tartness in the medium long finish. Toward the end, the sweetness becomes darker, like caramelized or slightly burnt sugar and is joined by dark roast coffee like tastes and finally a cherry like fruitiness in the retro and on the finish. A great example of this cigar, and with only a bit of age, would be a fantastic robusto. Good luck folks!

Rye
Nice...sounds like a different cigar than I hadI love this competition mostly to see just how differently people taste the same cigar, as well as the vast differences within each cigar as well
Habana Mike
I enjoy the schadenfreude seeing others fail as miserably as I do on these
fabes
Interesting.. My sample was much more like Rye's than Brad's. I didn't catch the cherry retro, but had a cornicopia of citrus and grassy notes and a gentle sweetness throughout. Think I've had this cigar before, but I'm rolling out the padding for when I fall flat on my face.
potpest
I really wish I hadn't smoked cigar nr2 after quite a few drinks..I narrowed it down to 3 at the time and I can remember which three. How the cigar was, the flavours...I really can't remember.

melies
Well, had mine on Sunday, it became my birthday morning cigar and I smoked it in the patio as my wife was graciously enough to give me the morning free to dedicate it to my passion Didn't forget to take pictures this time. Cold draw was really good, hay, has a cereal quality to it also. At light up it was quite strong, but I quickly mellowed down and became quite the elegant cigar. Some bran and sweet flavors, but there was something of for me. This cigar needs age. The sweetness that I was getting gave more artificial sweetener flavor like Splenda than sugar cane. Then it became kind of muted... In no way a bad cigar, just kept thinking that it needed time and evolution to get its act together. After the middle point the cigar started to become stronger and shared better qualities than in the first third, it became more defined but it still wasn't perfect. I was paring the cigar with an espresso at first and then with just water. The sweetness mellowed and almost went away and a more dark quality came to it. A little bit stronger but also an acidic flavour much like sucking a penny. At then end I thought that it was a good cigar with great potential, but it's not even close to being ready. I think I know what this is because I've had the same experience with other young ones, but who really knows hahaha After all is said and done I'm having lots of fun with this tastings and also had a great birthday Good luck to all!

Optic101
First impression: Very good construction, smooth nice wrapper, slightly oily, good cold draw. Not so good, wrapper spilt. Upon lighting a smooth creamy sweet start. Low medium strength During the first 3rd getting, barn, grass with sweet undertone. A bit worried about the crack, try to cover it and hold it down as good as possible. Good thing is, feels like it is only the wrapper, no hole, doesn't influence the smoking (technically). Very lucky as I can smoke through the damage without problems. 2nd third is giving me some perfume, flower hints and chocolate. Moving into the last 3rd there is a citrus flavor with sweet grass. Strength is moving up quite a bit now with a Nicotin kick at the end. Feels like a fresh one, not ready for my taste but would expect to become a good smoke down the road Paring with water

ShortFatHokie
Finally had the chance to smoke cigar #2 today. The cigar has been stored at 64*F/65%. It has a bit of a box press, a veiny, slightly oily Colorado Maduro wrapper and a floralish barnyard aroma. The pre-light draw is firm but nice. First 1/3 - Leather, cedar, spice and hints of dried fruit. Medium full in strength but settled into a nice medium by the end of the first 1/3. Middle 1/3 - The leather and cedar continue with slight hints of sweetness and a more muted dried fruit. The first ash didn't drop until just after the halfway point of the cigar. Final 1/3 - More of the muted dried fruit and some grassiness. I had to cut it short and go rescue my wife from a flat tire she encountered while biking with friends. Not really sure of what this one is. One moment I thought it was cigar "A", the next moment cigar "B", and at another moment, cigar "C". When in doubt, take "D", all of the above...
El Guero
Smoked on friday. I was supposed to be alone for a few hours, but was interrupted into the first 3rd. I was most impressed with the construction. I've not had this size before. My guess was purely a guess.
Tino
Smoked mine yesterday. Construction was very good, tightly packed but with no draw issues. Hint of a box press about mine as well. Have to say I didn't enjoy this one much, seemed very young and quite harsh at this stage. Difficult to pin down flavours, had some floral notes and I also picked up a bit of a metallic note. Some fruitiness but mainly just youthful tobacco. Picked up a little towards the final third and my lips were tingling. Some spice but all pepper for me, no sweeter spices.

toasterhead
I really enjoyed this robusto. I compared it visually with some other robustos in my stash and decided this one was more round than obvious box press. Stored at 65/65, smoked on a windless back patio, paired with water. Nice construction, light wrapper, perfect cap came off with Xikar bris. Cold draw was slightly on firm side, with hay and tea flavors. Careful lighting with distant jet flame, first draw was delicious sweet toasty flavor with citrus hints. Medium toasty, vanilla and nutty flavors throughout, some harshness right at the end. Smoked over one hour. Only negative was slightly tight draw and low to medium smoke volume. Interesting variation in experiences noted by other members. Guess sent, good luck!
