Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 9, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2015 It was great to catch up with Brad (PapaDisco last night in Saigon. Brad treated Di and I to a great dinner at Temple Club before some late night drinks at the rooftop bar of the Rex hotel. Brad saved my arse by bringing a selection of cigars and I had a stellar D4 while taking another....which I am smoking now while tapping this out The best thing about this hobby is the people you meet around the world and brad is certainly top shelf. Much appreciated mate. Thank you for your great company! We will miss the Sunrise resort in Hoi An. Not hard to see why Our last day was spent in the local markets early where we selected ingredients for our cooking class. I love the hustle and bustle of markets and the fresh local produce. Di and I managed to put together a great local chicken salad and sweet and sour vietnamese soup. Afternoon was spent chillin Off into town in the evening for a gastronomic feast starting with Banana Pan Cakes which are a great street food. They may not be good for you....but by god do they pack some flavour! Di promised we could eat the last night in Hoi An at a place that i have marked as a "must do". Simply called "The Market" my night consisted of the following gastronomic feast! 5 braised offal in local spices Frog in local spice Small Snail Salad Giant stuffed snail in Lemongrass The best stuffed Squid ever (pork, mushroom) Silkworm Salad....a "pop" in every bite! Duck Embryo....I will save you the picture of when I peeled the egg and a little duck popped out ...this is about when Di ran to the bathroom I am a foodie as you can guess and was in my element. 10/10....Brilliant evening! We headed back to the street bar opposite the resort and caught up with the locals and had way too many drinks together as we said our goodbyes. Fantastic time. 6
Warren Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 You're making me hungry Mate, I haven't had dinner yet. Leftovers I am told. I like the hat by the way, is that what the bad guy chef is wearing these days.
JohnS Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for sharing your holiday Rob and Di, the photos of Vietnam have been great. It's awesome to see you so relaxed, to catch up with good friends. Great food pics, making me hungry too.
madandana Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Wow! I can eat just about anything. Gross most people out by eating raw oysters and sucking crawfish brains but I'm not sure about that duck. Did you eat it. Tell us more, one bite or did you chew it. I'm in intrigued. Hows the language barrier? Thanks for all the great pics. 1
JohnnyC Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Looks like vacation agrees with both both of you. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us Di and Rob. All the food you have shown looks delicious. Have a safe journey home.

Texture is a mix between hard boiled egg and chicken. Not sure at what point of the cycle it is cooked but one suspects a few days from hatching.
wabashcr Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Magnificent food. The offal and squid look particularly decadent. Glad you've both enjoyed Vietnam.
Ubergosupro69 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I've had some insects, and some worms, but never silk worms. Looks like it's been an epic vacation
Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 9, 2015 Author Popular Post Posted April 9, 2015 Looks like vacation agrees with both both of you. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us Di and Rob. It is great travelling with Di. Partner and best mate.. She is not precious in any way, the life of any party, fits into any back street, looks down on no one while suffering no fools/tossers. She mentioned today that she misses her e-mails ......I will remind her that next week 9
Fuzz Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Fantastic to see you two having a great time. Though, I'm assuming Di didn't have much of an appetite for dinner that last night.

Whatever she ate...she is seedy today ....in bed while I am tapping this out with a P2 Tubo (48 AUD in the hotel but bloody good) + a schooner of San Miguel. She didn't touch a thing I ate. I am fine
Fuzz Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Lol! Making some long distance calls on the porcelain telephone?

I get them here in Toronto at local stores and I serve them up exactly how your picture is presented. nuoc mum cham dipping sauce and fresh mint.

topdiesel Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Glad you enjoyed your trip and that crazy food (to my simple western palate). I think I am with Di, I would sit on the sidelines rather than digging in.
