Variant2 Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Yeah, General Cigar doesn't like others to sell counterfeit cigars of their *Cohiba* brand. What a bunch of swell guys! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The latest round of arrests and seizures brought on by General Cigar Co. could lead to the confiscation of cigars with a retail value of more than $100,000. In what has become a yearly occurrence, General—which has the U.S. rights to brands such as Cohiba, Hoyo de Monterrey and Partagas, as well as global rights to Macanudo, CAO and others—has announced the latest successful anti-counterfietting operation. According to a press release, the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (ABT) has seized over $100,000 worth of cigars and “tens of thousands of counterfeit cigar bands and boxes.” General says it contacted the Tampa office of the ABT over a year ago after becoming suspicious regarding a counterfeit operation. Beginning on Feb. 28, the operation has led to various seizures and even arrests. More at the link below http://halfwheel.com/counterfeit-cigar-seized-in-florida

srbbones Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 General must love this: Fake Cubans, and they get in the news story. Weird
LordAnubis Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Ahh they were cubans huh, makes sense then I better get some sleep... how could i possibly ever think someone would fake a cohiba red dot
Magpie Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Having spent many years working for the worlds largest bearing maker, counterfeiting is rife in all aspects of manufacturing, and always it involves sub standard products that often can affect safety, all industries are at risk, aircraft, automotive and pharmaceuticals in particular. We did several raids in Australia to confiscate counterfeit goods. If there is demand and enough margin then you will for sure find counterfeit of any brand, even NC cigars, but just beware of what you are smoking. We all are aware of watches and designer clothes and bags that are fake, but we don't worry about it , that's just the tip of the iceberg though, as I mentioned above pharmaceuticals is in fact the biggest worry. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tooxeb3Byrg Not sure if this link will work , but if not just go to YouTube and type in fake pharmaceuticals, it will give you an idea Most importantly buy your products from authorised distributors such as our host
polarbear Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I was wondering this the other day.... does anyone fake non cubans?!?!? I guess they do!!. Thanks for sharing There was a big thing a while back about a bunch of fake Opus X cigars hitting the secondary market Also, the high end Padron have that second, serial numbered band on them as they have also had issues with counterfeiting Its not a stretch to assume that your ultra premium brands like Davidoff also have concerns about this With NC manufactures moving into other markets of late it shouldn't be long before we start seeing more fake NCs, but they'll likely be from the "Ultra Premium" segment of the NC Market
JohnS Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Fake Opus X, Padron and Davidoff I can understand, but fake General Cigar non-cuban cigars is truly a funny concept!
polarbear Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Fake Opus X, Padron and Davidoff I can understand, but fake General Cigar non-cuban cigars is truly a funny concept! High Volume, low margin scam perhaps Get a bunch of 50c NC seconds from the DR and sell them for $3 a stick People would be less concerned about them being fake and probably buy a handful rather than just one or two 1

RickHendeson Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Well -- and get your rotten tomatoes ready fellows -- IN THEORY those could be perfectly legitimate Cuban cigars. General could still have them seized as "counterfeit" because Cuban Cohibas are, by definition, counterfeit in the U.S. Now, I see the $65 price tag the same as you do . . . So, just sayin.
cigcars Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 ** I've read their article and clicked on the links attached to the article...what I'm trying to understand or ascertain is - did the counterfeiters fake the original Cuban Cohiba band or the RED DOT Cohiba band??? That's what the article is a little vague on. Because as I'm sure we know you couldn't PAY us to smoke that Red Dot fiasco...
anacostiakat Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 How embarrassing! Guy buys a GC Cohiba, etc. only to find it is a fake.
Drguano Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 My favorite counterfeit, purchased years ago in Singapore: 2
sw15825 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 C'mon now they have bundles of Espys, Pirimides and Coro, without the boxes and direct from El Laguito. For $ 49.99 each. I saw guys on instagram that were smoking them and said they are the "Real Deal".
mikemerry Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I've seen guys smoke pubic hair and think it's pot( YouTube). People who can't admit they don't know....well they smoke pubic hair the losers.... Or shitty fake cigars... Honestly the best would be later seeing an ATB agent puffing on a fake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
