In the spirit of Ken's garlic post (which I did find helpful as I love garlic) maybe somebody can give me a tip for this typical household problem.

In a new dress box of cigars (especially when box pressed), how do you remove the first cigar without damaging it or any others? I have come across this issue frequently and have damaged feet and torn wrappers. Does anybody have a trick?

The second cigar out of the box is never a problem, so just remove the second one first. ;-} -Dan

I have these lovely Unobtanium Davidoff tongs that are designed by Swiss scientists to solve the problem. Gently open the tongs and grasp both sides of the box, squeeze the tongs firmly, and quickly RI

Folks some of you are overthinking this...

Sliding a jam knife between the left or right-most cigar and the side of the box and prying out by the head usually works fine. If the cigars are properly humidified, they stand the manipulation without issue.

One of the many ways - put the open box on its edge so the cigars are vertical with feet down, while holding the front paper with your thumb so the cigars don't all fall out at once. Tilt the box slightly and the heads will just pop out of the box. Grab one and slowly pull it out. Rest the box flat and close the lid...

I usually tilt the box so the feet of the cigars slide down and are touching the box, then I gently push down on the edge of the head of a cigar and the foot pops up. Works every time.

Open the lid and fold the paper cover forward, hold the box with both hands and give it a gentle but firm shake upwards. This also resolves the problem with deciding which one to smoke first..... ;-)

I usually pry them up slowly by the foot with a fingernail. never had any issues, but I see how it could be tough with a really tightly packed box. I like all the tilting suggestions. makes me wonder why I haven't tried that...

Gently open the tongs and grasp both sides of the box, squeeze the tongs firmly, and quickly RIP THE SIDES OFF THE WHOLE BOX!!

The cigars gently fall on the table, floor and carpet, making it a cinch to pick the first one to smoke.

Needless to say they work really well on Davidoff boxes. All others......not so much............idea.gif

I usually just push down gently on the foot so the head pops up a little bit. A safer way would be using a letter opener or knife to pry the first cigar up (at the head).

Interesting. I usually try to push down and forward on the head to try to get the foot to pop up a little. If it does not work on the one I try, I will try on another. If that still doesn't work I will use a knife at the head.

Pushing on the foot of the cigar on the non-spacer side (always the right I believe) and pulling out by the head worked pretty good. Pushing on the foot of the cigar on the spacer side seemed to cause excessive pressure on that cigar.

Thanks everyone!

The same way you open a closet safe without the key.

Gently throw the box to the ground, ensuring a slight spin rotation similar to skipping a stone on water, and time it so it lands with the rotational force directly on the opening side on the left where the spacer or "cardboard cigar" is.

If opening an SLB, use a bigger hammer
