AlastairE Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I have just moved out of home and into a new place. Absolutely stoked with it, renting with a couple of friends makes it super cheap and it's a hell of a lot closer to work and uni than home (1 & 1/2 hours on public transport beforehand...) Anyway, as one of the two men in the house (+ 4 young women) I have had to assume the role of the 'fix-it man'. The other guy is hopeless. Thing is, I'm only a touch better... We (read the girls) have decided that it'll be a great idea for us (read me) to put in a fruit and veggie garden, hammocks and an undercover gym. I've been passed on this responsibility and I'm out of my depth. As some positive reinforcement, show me/tell me about your best or most recent DIY work. Humidors, walk-ins, cubby/treehouses, man-caves, dog houses (for canines and when the wife cracks it) etc. Showing-off allowed!
Popular Post leftimatic Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 Alright you asked for it.... Front entry steps that I built all wood was milled from my property A garden trellis I built all wood milled from my property A nesting box for chickens I built all wood except plywood lid milled from my property Older Gransfors Bruk axe head I hung and shaped on hickory handle. Wood not from my property. Chicken coop on stone foundation I built from wood (you guessed it) milled from my property. And the best for last (for now)..... My Triumph chopper that I built. All welding fabrication and fitting done by me in my unheated garage, over three winters. The mechanical and wiring and stainless oil lines were done by a good friend and mechanical genius. Well that's a start. I'm sure I've got a few pics elsewhere of other past stuff, but these are some of the latest completed projects. Will take some photos of the 4 bay carport and attached motorcycle garage I plan on starting this spring. Hoping to do it cordwood or also known as stackwood style but will see where time takes me. Hope it inspires yah. 12

Popular Post Habana Mike Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 So you live in a place with 4 girls and 1 other guy? I don't think you'd need to worry much about DIY! 7
BradNC Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 True but he must impress first. So you live in a place with 4 girls and 1 other guy? I don't think you'd need to worry much about DIY!
NJP Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I do most of my DIY in the clouds, have a cigar look at the view/sky and plan a heap of stuff but never deliver. I'm a TIY guy "Think it yourself" and then get a tradie to do the magic under supervision. 1

canadianbeaver Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Here's one Matthew and I never expected in a million years. We go to antique auctions all the time here near Collingwood, Ontario. This one, near Owen Sound, featured the contents of a whole riding tack shop. Fine, but there were two trophy heads on the wall. Vegans? Look away!!These photos show the buffalo head at the auction, at home me working on it, and photoshopped in place where it might go in our house. EDIT** So weird. I put in the photos, here they are again. 2

Need the pics please. That's better.
Popular Post CigarAsh Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 Recent jewelry box I made as a gift (one of several I made for give aways): Dresser I built for my son's room: Furniture I built for my office several years ago (where I'm sitting right now): Image of the desktop from above. The wood was cut & milled for me by a friend in Northern California: 7
Puros Y Vino Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Wow. Seriously impressive work here. I just made this little cigar bundler thingy a month ago. 2

CigarAsh Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Beautiful desktop. What kind of wood is that, walnut? Correct. California Claro walnut to be exact. One of the most wonderful woods I've worked with. The top is from a log that had tremendous figure and color throughout it (my friend send me the entire log, cut into sequential slabs that make up the tops of the 3 main pieces in my office). The jewelry box in my photos is actually leftovers from that log. 1
Popular Post tdlfoto Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 Moved into a new home recently. The basement was finished but the carpet over concrete is never a good idea, and was aggravating my sons asthma. I laid new new floors, paint, and new trim. Clean, fun, and practical. We have some epic soccer matches down there now 5
Popular Post headstand Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 There are some seriously nice projects posted here. Pieces for this...umm... "watering can" were hand cut and formed from flat copper 7

That's the free stuff, anything else cost just under a kidney and little more than a spleen.
Popular Post Strada Posted November 5, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2014 Great job everyone! First humi build was the Trunkador ( conversion from steam trunk to humidor): 300 bottles wine cooler(50$ on kijiji) conversion to humidor. I took out the broken compressor. Sealed the hole with and built some sliding shelves out of spanish cedar. I have lots of beads and a Hydra LG. Stable! I have to take a picture later... 8
aes8 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I've never had so much going on at the same time. I'm going to pay my electrical and plumbing contractor over $10k this year alone. 1
Patric M Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I do a ton of DIY stuff around my house. If you need any tips just ask buddy! I just finished installing a manual transfer switch on my breaker panel. Now I won't have to deal with the power going out and having to use a ton of extension cords. 1
