ChanceSchmerr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 ...Than a bastard head-cold that just won't let your sinuses go! Been held captive for the last 5 days or so, and it just won't let up.....right when a really good weekend for weather (and thus, cigar-smoking weather for me) is in the forecast. Anyone else had their cigar plans foiled by the common f'ing cold? 1
Cisco Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I always seem to have lingering sinus issues after a cold\flu. I believe it has to do with my allergies(dust\cat) compounding the inflammation. For me, I take a break from cigars and nurse my sinuses until they are somewhat clear. No point on wasting good cigars and exacerbating the situation. It can often take up to two weeks for my sinuses to clear, sometime longer if sinusitis sets in. I find that saline nasal rinse twice a day, combined with zinc supplements (mention by a member here), and sinus medication often does the job of clearing the sinuses quickly. I know how you feel right now though. Too many cigars in the past month has burnt-out my palate and I am on a self-imposed break from cigars for a week. Today is a really nice day here and there aren't many left before winter hits and I am lamenting my situation. Good luck and I hope things resolve soon.
tjohn7 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 The last two weeks have been ruined by an awful cold that's getting passed around the office. Finally just cleared up last night. But yeah, there really isn't anything more frustrating.
santela Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Just enjoyed sipping a beer and having a Monte Esp2 on my balcony, supposed to be my perfect Friday night. But the frustrating part for me is that I'm a bit allergic to alcohol, which gives me trouble breathing. I guess I'll just have to go with some oolong tea next time.
Carts Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Three colds over this past summer season, all week long. Missed herfs because of it. Such a kick in the pants
Carts Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I'm a bit allergic to alcohol, which gives me trouble breathing. Never heard of an alcohol allergy, but oh my that is awful.
santela Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Never heard of an alcohol allergy, but oh my that is awful. I think it's more common among Asians, or so that's been my experience. I'm not a big drinker, but not having the option does suck.
leftimatic Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Oldest boy is off to preschool. Let the cold season begin. To top it off one of the teachers helpers was telling my wife about a lice epidemic in the high schools and how one of the younger ones had a case just last week. And yes I hate a stuffed nose and sore throat and trying to soldier through a good cigar. Just cant do it.
Baldy Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Oct 2009 I got a bloody cold the day before I boarded a plane for Cuba for a week of holidays. Couldn't smoke, couldn't drink, couldn't get out and play much. Spent most of my time looking for the highest bridge I could find. Was awful.
subport Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I am actually out of cigar smoking for 3 weeks now, due to common cold, followed by some virus caused flu thing and fever and seems like will never end. Last Monday I thought its over but tuesday stuffy nose again since then high fever and running nose... so yeah, pretty much...
gtejada Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Agreed! Cold late this summer lasted about 2 1/2 weeks. Tried to smoke through it and it was a complete waste of time and nice sticks.
Rye Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I feel your pain ChanceSchmeer. After a whirlwind drive to Van Isle and back to arrive home the day before our long awaited cigar event, my body decided it was the time to let an intruder in. Sore throat, cough, sniffles and all, but the show must go on, so I dopes up and powered through. Sadly it meant that my planned cigar rotation was moot, and I opted for the second tier cigars. I hate the rare times when I do catch a bug, and it's so infrequent that I almost feel mad and disgusted when I do get sick.
laficion Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Sorry to hear about that Chris.I hope It won't last to long ,you'll just have to wait till It's over.
Vetteman Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I'm currently on day 7. Feel ok to smoke but smell/taste affected so what's the point
Lasabar Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I got sick right before my honeymoon. A 50 count Pelican case filled with cigars and I never touched one
stogieluver Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 This remedy works; believe what I'm telling you. When you first feel a cold coming on, start taking Zycam citrus flavored redi melts. Take one every three hours and don't drink anything for about 30 minutes after each one. If you will do this, I promise your cold will be over with in no more than three days. The key is to get on these the minute you think you might have a cold coming on. The sooner you start, the more effective it will be.
cigcars Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Ohhhh, yeah I've had that happen numerous times. So if I'm really in a smoking mood during this period I will just grab something that I know has little flavor satisfaction and smoke that. So when I don't taste or enjoy any aroma of anything at least it won't be that much of a loss
Jeremy Festa Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 The worst. Hate it when that happens. Majority of my cigar smoking is confined to weekends. And when it is interrupted by any illness I get upset! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
PigFish Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Smoke anyway that thwart the damn virus! Show'em whose boss Chris…! -LOL 1
Maplepie Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Get a dog. Increases your immune system! Get your daily dose of selenium. Helps with your immune system. I think there's a guy on here who can help you source some pure selenium. Just get an ingot and lick it 20 times a day.
ramon_cojones Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Selenium isn't going to prevent you from getting sick there are other more important things for that purpose. You also don't need to source selenium you can eat two raw brazil nuts a day and have more than enough.
