I got to tell you guys this

So, a young colleague comes by my desk today and politely tells me she's heard that i know a little bit about cigars.

I say yes...? thinking this will not end well. :-)

She tells me her dad died last year, and left the family a big cupboard of cigars and she has no clue what to do with them. Her mum is still living in the house and as my colleague said "She still puts water in the cupboard every now and then"

So i ask if she remembers approximately what's in there and she goes "there must be thousands of cigars, my dad has been collecting them as long as i can remember, there's a lot of unopened boxes"

I'll get a list tomorrow, this is going to be interesting.

To add to the drama, i'm in Sweden, and the cigars are in Florida, with the risk of fakes and all that.

As others have said, in Florida watch out for fake Cubans.

They might not be Cuban cigars in the cabinet. For all you know so far they might be Padrons and Fuentes.

I'm sure there are Florida members here who wouldn't mind having a look and would know what they're looking at.

It actually raises an issue. There are members here who I'm sure have cigar collections worth 6 figures and more.

Have a plan in place if something happens to you, so whoever you leave behind knows what to do. A name and a phone number to contact to get them sold is all that person should need.

I've seen cigars sell in estate sales, usually for a fraction of what they would get if there were only two people in the room who knew what they were bidding on.

Why would you? You don't know anything about this man or what cigars he has or their condition. Plus they are thousands of miles away. Are you hoping he's got a bunker full of cuban davidoffs? If you're excited at the mere thought of cigars then I suppose it's alright but if you're hoping for some treasure find I highly suspect you will be disappointed. If you set your expectations low and are then surprised it would be better than the other way around.

My reasoning is that if you buy thousands of cigars you probably know at least a little about smokes.

Might not be the holy grail, but I don't think its all NC crap.

I'll have the list tomorrow. Time will tell. I'm an optimist. Always hope for the best and have no problems handling disappointments.
