smoking not buying

Recommended Posts

Time is a jet plane and things change.

I have decided to no longer buy any cigars but smoke my way through my remaining stash.. Then when I'm running out I'll start buying again, stuff I feel like smoking there and then.

It actually feels liberating not to think about maintaining the collection and it's very interesting to just light up those smokes that were being kept for that elusive special moment. Life is just too short, you know. Mind you, I'll probably hang on to some very special sticks anyway.

Life, priorities, and interests change. I still love smoking cigars, but no longer chase anything. I average 1-2 a week at the most, so running out anytime soon is not a concern. I haven't bought f

I guess I will probably slow down with the buying aspect of things and simply rotate the collection, smoking everything at its prime and only replacing the empty boxes as I go. However, my mind is still set on expansion for now...

Good on yah. I am thinking of the exact same thing. Just a few more boxes to get me through the lean times. Really I don't have a whole lot as is. So curbing the buying should be easy right? Besides I just ordered up a couple pipes and some tobacco...... and so it goes.

I am somewhere in-between - I buy at about the same rate as I smoke these days (which has slowed down a fair amount). This is being made MUCH easier by HSAs recent size and price policy ;)

I have to admit, there have been moments lately where I seriously considered selling all my HTF and rare stock and just smoke my cheap regular production sticks...

I make damn sure I don't buy anything I wouldn't be comfortable to just put flame to any day of the week. Some cigars I do age to enjoy them at their best but I try and steer clear of rare, special released or discontinued cigars.

It is also a way to ensure expectations are kept in check and relaxation/simple pleasure is put to the forefront of the smoking experience :)

If you don't periodically buy anything then you don't have anything aged to smoke once you run out. I pretty much only buy regular production to age which @hiroshiro laughs at me but I quite enjoy the process and result while other people love collecting REs and LEs. LIke lotusguy said HSA has saved me a lot of money by introducing a vast quantity of sticks over 50rg so my wallet sends out a heartfelt thanks to them. I'm just not interested in anything that is a chore to smoke.

Erik, I don't know what you put in your coffee but please send me some!

Already thinking I might have enough smokes to last me and I should cool it for a while.....

But I am a PL lover, so a few Picadores boxes are a must. And the Dips coming from Rob, the Winnie's for my birthday......

HELP!

When Tabacuba puts Coronas back on the menu, say about $160 a box, I will be a buyer again. Until then, I can wait them out with relative comfort. I have not actively bought since 2008…

Smokers mature, I am sure I am in a stage. I won't know if it is terminal until they find me face down in an ashtray…!
