Popular Post Grahamsant Posted August 24, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2014 I turned 27 this year and until yesterday I had never been fishing at all! It's something I've always been interested in but most of my family aren't. My work's social club arranged a fishing taster day at a place only about 20 miles away from where I live called Emperor Lakes. It was a bargain price and I thought I'd give it a shot. They had coaches on site and as I'd never been fishing before I was taking on board a lot of information which means I didn't get a chance to take any photos myself. I did get the opportunity to sit back in the afternoon with a Party Lusitania and just enjoy the peaceful surroundings while fishing and I've got to say (pun intended) I'm hooked!! Had a few bites that I lost including a small carp that I was bringing in and had an inch away from my hand before it got itself off the hook! Landed 7 fish total which were mostly small roach and then there was this beauty...4 lbs 6 oz Tench! Not a record breaker but a beautiful fish and a fantastic land for my first ever attempt! So I'm off to do some research and buy some gear! Expect future posts!!!! 9
Ginseng Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 That is a lovely fish. A tench, you say? What other fish is it like? Looks carp-ish. Wilkey
leftimatic Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Thanks, Thanks a lot. Haven't been fishing in years. Now you got me digging out the gear. Nice catch by the way, that's what makes a guy keep coming back for more. Good Luck.
Maplepie Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Eyyyyy! Graham!! If you're ever free for a day or three in Scotish Midgeland, there's a good Belgian bloke who would love some company on his dingy!
jpn Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Nice catch, Here in Indiana we call that fish a Sucker.
Habana Mike Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Nice catch! That will get you hooked for sure!
puromaniac Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Cigars and fishing. Doesn't get much better.
hoyopr Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Your post made my day, congrats on your catch and for discovering one of life's great pleasures. Tight Lines.
Grahamsant Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Thanks guys for the comments!! Such a fantastic day out. I've got a lot of learning to do but I can't wait! Got a short holiday in 2 weeks and there's coarse lakes on site. Have already ordered some gear so just waiting for it to arrive and hopefully I'll get some nice catches. Even if i dont catch a thing, cigars by the side of a lake and just having a peaceful day out will be pleasure enough! Will post pics!
jvel79 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 That's a nice catch. Especially being your first time.
puromaniac Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Next you'll be reading (or watching) The River Why and will be hooking up with your own cigar-loving Eddy. It does get better than cigars and fishing.
champ Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Lovely tench there Graham. Not so many good tench waters around these days.An excellent catch!.
cigardude Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 congrats, fishing is one of lifes natural pleasures (for me anyway). I am glad you had fun. Tight lines!
torsion Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Hi Graham, nice catch there mate.I grew up in Herts in the UK and carp fished for many years...really miss it but my lifestyle has changed a little now as I'm out of the country.Great hobby, great to enjoy the outdoors and smokes!
Fosgate Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 It's cool to see someone discover the outdoors like this. It makes a great day to catch something but on those days when the fish are not biting I always tell myself, "Somewhere, some body else wishes they were doing what you are doing." And it's always fun just to get outside rather than sitting at home watching a glowing screen wasting away. Congrats!
