Pedro2486 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Travelling between different mine sites often I have much downtime and music only gets me so far. So I have become an avid consumer of podcasts of all types. I also really enjoy them kicking back with a nice cigar My faves are: Hardcore History (a amateur history show, nice long and well researched) Major Spoilers (comics, movies etc) Critical Hit (A D&D podcast) Gamers Tavern (more nerd game stuff) Hidden Grid (shadowrun RPG) SOFREP (military) Anyone else a podcast fan? If so, what are your favourites and what would you recommend to others? 2

JoeyGunz Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I listen to the SYSK (Stuff You Should Know) podcast's relgiously, a new one each Tuesday and Thursday. Funny, informative but very approachable. http://www.stuffyoushouldknow.com/ part of HowStuffWorks
merc Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Great thread, I've been trying to find good podcasts. Spend at least 2 hours a day commuting, and sometimes you are just too drained after work to read. I like Tim Ferriss in general, he has a podcast up on www.fourhourworkweek.com/podcast 1
Ryan Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 There are two I listen to weekly This American Life, been a fan since the 90s. 99% Invisible, this is about design, from the saying "Good design is 99% invisible". 1
Lasabar Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I subscribe to the following: Adam Carolla - He has great guests that are funny, but he can go off on tangents that are boring. Chewin' It with Kevin and Steve - (Two of the guys from Super Troopers) It's young so not professional, but those guys can be funny. Nerdist The only cigar podcast I've ever listened to was "Blowing Smoke Podcast" but it was too local and not very informative to my tastes.

coblos Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 The Dan Lebatard Show (ESPN Radio / 790 The Ticket) + Various Podcasts form the Grantland site. Recommend both if you like American sports. The Lebatard show does have a lot of inside jokes that you won't really get unless you listen frequently.
Zedman05 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 The Joe Rogan Experience. Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast Ari Shaffir's Sceptic Tank Good Times with Steve Simeone Duncan Trussel's Family Hour The Church of What's Happening Now with Joey Diaz Dan Carlins Hardcore History WNYC's RadioLab Stogie Geeks Half Ashed Cigar Podcast The Cigar Authority Mysterious Universe I have about 10 hours a day to listen to podcasts, so I tend to load up with these regulars, and some more that are off and on.
Overproof Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Glad I found this post. I've subscribe to a couple suggested, especially the Kevin Smith ones. A couple I've been listening to. The Combat Jack Show - Old hip-hop attorney interviewing past and present Hip-Hop artists. Drink Champs - Rapper, NOREs show doing much of the above. Great industry stories here. I am Rapaport - **** talk from actor Michael Rapaport an his co host Gerald Moody. Greasy NY talk. Love it. Dudes pretty knowledgeable with his sports (especially basketball) so you get a bit of that too. Cheers!
RWhiz Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Another "Stuff" fan, both SYSK, and Missed in History, though I don't like the current girls as much as the previous. Also listen to Planet Money and Freakenomics Radio too. For my recreational podcasts, it's PulpMX for motocross and JRA of mountain bike radio for mountain biking. Oh, and another miner here too. Seems like quite a few for a cigar forum! ...damn I didn't check the dates of the thread!
Cigar Surgeon Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Old podcast thread. I listen to Hardcore History by Dan Carlin Stogie Geeks Cigar Federation (Shameless self promotion - Cigar Chat, Sharing our Pairings, What Embargo, Pipe Dummies) The Cigar Authority Cigar Jukebox 2
NapaNolan Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 I haven't been bitten hard by the bug, but the two I enjoy are Comedy Bang Bang (comedy, obviously, lots of great guests doing amazing characters) I'll Drink to That (beverage industry people: winemakers, sommeliers, importers, retailers...)
dageshi Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Giant Bomb Cast (video games) Tested.com This is only a Test (Tech Stuff) Roosterteeth Podcast
mgravito Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Old podcast thread. I listen to Hardcore History by Dan Carlin Stogie Geeks Cigar Federation (Shameless self promotion - Cigar Chat, Sharing our Pairings, What Embargo, Pipe Dummies) The Cigar Authority Cigar Jukebox I especially like Cigar Surgeon's habanos reviews. Bill Simmons podcasts and the rest of the Channel 33 stuff (especially Keepin' it 1600) Hardcore History. Dan Carlin is very entertaining. Local sports radio podcasts (Toucher and Rich, Felger and Mazz) Soccer pods (Men in Blazers, Football Weekly with James Richardson, BBC Five Live Football and F1, Total Soccer Show) Stogie Geeks, Cigar Federation, Half Ashed Radio Tim Goodman's TV Talk Machine 1
planetary Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Currently active & still favorites: Giant Bombcast and their new Giant Beastcast - video games; almost prefer the Beastcast these days The West Wing Weekly - one of the great TV shows (new series) Unfettered Mind - secular Buddhism discussion, focused on one's resting in one's experience, w/o the religion 538 & 538 Elections Past greats, gone or fallen: portafilter.net podcast - the "third wave" espresso & coffee scene from the mid-2000s Ante Up (the old one) - a poker podcast, best when special guest Mike Fasso appeared Stogie Geeks - the earliest episodes before it became a heavily sponsored ad fest & interview show The Partially Examined Life - early episodes terrific if you have a little background in philosophy; they've since become a bit too diffuse HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast - back when they were working their way through the author's work Just ok: Roguelike Radio - super niche podcasts about the classic game genre & designing such games My Brother, My Brother, and Me - comedy 99% Invisible Welcome to Night Vale - my kids love it; we played it while driving all over the Big Island of Hawaii on our family vacation last year; to me, it wears thin a bit too quickly My "to investigate" queue: Radiolab - supposed to be very good Singularity 1 on 1 Bunch of niche author podcasts: A Podcast to the Curious, The Outer Dark, The Cromcast, Tanis, The No Sleep Podcast Oyez - US Supreme Court case discussion Surely You're Joking - comedy and science Data Skeptic The History of Philosophy without Gaps
