lostsoulcamero Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 i saw the headline. i assumed this was about your shirts. shots fired
paulF Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 HDM's are generally the most floral cigars based on my experience especially the Epicure No. 2 I can detect floral smells that reminds mostly of wild flowers(nothing in specific) just like when out in the field and you just smell that wild flower scent or even at flower shops! Maybe it's more characterised as roses and not flowers... As for taste, what i consider floral is whatever taste that reminds me of nectar rich flowers. i get those Floral scents mostly at cold but the flavour/taste mostly when smoking the Cigar. Cheers
yannis Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I am smoking fundadores from a 50 cab(june 2000) that are amazingly floral. Mint + flowers and light mocca and wood. And very fresh despite the 14 ys of age.For me these are the most floral cigar I ve ever tasted
armmmmm Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 When I think of floral, I'm thinking of the flavor and scent I get from loose leaf teas that are sold at places like Teavana rather than a bouquet of flowers. I also don't retrohale so maybe I limit my ability to pick up these scents/flavors.
CaptainQuintero Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 To me floral means that buttery, almost the smell of plain flour, pollen taste. Different to the soapy/old lady perfume (Because it's pleasant !) Find it mostly in San Cristobal
Diamondog Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Ive got a batch of grand epicures that are very floral right now....
Reevzy Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I've gone through halh a box of Monte 520's and I reckon they have a floral thing about them, if not floral then definitely perfume. I'm not sure if I like it
olotti Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Floral to me is like others tasting what a wildflower would smell like. I had epi 2's once that were Med in body and very floral like eating lavender it was a very distinct and pronounced flavor in that batch. The more recent epi 2's I have are a little more full but that floral hint lingers like a dusting in the background. Never tasted it in any other blend.
cigaraholic Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 One day after work I stoped at the ATM to deposit a check, I'm smoking my 45 min drive home smoke....a Punch RS 12. The ATM's just a few feet off the sidewalk and I hear a woman say to her husband "do you smell that, it smells like orange blossoms".....he says "that's not orange blossoms, that's his cigar". 2
TheCoach Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 The "Floral" flavor always hits me when I feel like there is a light perfume, not dark enough to be herbal, like the Green Tea of a Cohiba Piramide Extra, but more of a fragrant womans perfume, like the Partagas D4.
CanuckSARTech Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 This is part of an e-mail I received this morning and would love to have your input. While I have responded I will shoot him a link to this thread in order that he receives a broader set of opinions. "........the term "floral" I hear used to describe a feature of a cigar. You and ken have used it occasionally in your own reviews. I am confused as to whether it relates to aroma or flavor or both? If it relates to flavor, how is "floral" defined...what does it taste like? Which cigars have this feature on a consistent basis? Are they only aged cigars or can you get this feature in young cigars? " I might be a little bit late to the punch with this, but I'll take a whack... I've had a similar conversation to this with a couple guys on here a few years back. For me? The epitome of "floral" in a cigar? Aged (7-10 years minimum) La Gloria Cuba MdO No.'s 1's and 2's. WONDERFUL. I liken it to having a nice floral chamomile tea or something like that. It's not just about the scent or the flavour. It's about the combinations of both, and the mental relaxation and calming memories that it invokes. For me, aged LGC, when they hit that nice aged stride, combine "floral" with two other items that blend perfectly - a fresh, light grassy tone, and a mild citrus tea note. Combined, these aged LGC flavours for me invoke sitting out on the back deck on a late-spring/early-summer morning, with the aroma of fresh cut grass and blooming flowers, enjoying a tea in the sunshine. For me these lighter aromas, the "floral" tones, are homey, earthy, memory-inducing, backdeck-wanting light "wake-up" calls of cigars. Something to get the mind wandering, the memories flowing, the reflection started at the beginning or end of a day. "Floral" isn't so much a taste. It's that light, mild-tannin tea tinge that sits on your tongue, while your nose picks up the surrounding waxy perfumeness on the air. Floral is one of those tastes, that when you really know you "get it", it just shows you really how much your tongue / palate is tied in together with your sense of smell as well. 1
TM-US Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 The only cigars that I've ever gotten a floral note out of are Quai D'Orsay. The Coronas give me a distinct lavender and rose floral note. I've never gotten that out of another cigar.

Also, those aged olde tobacco taste. ones pre '92. that nice dried fruit/gasoline/holunder smell to it that just makes you think you're biting into a christmas fruitcake.

Find it to be somewhat common with this particular marca.
Hubba Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Agreed with both entries. A wine can have "flowery notes" ("des notes florales" in french). With cigars it's often a reminder of pot-pourri. Perfume notes are a completely different issue, in a cigar they're more often a defect rather than a feature. Must agree with perfume notes being a defect. I smoked a Cohiba PE recently which was pitched half way because of the overwhelming pefume flavour....this taste was not present in any other cigars in the box. Now speaking of beautiful floral notes, i think of some aged QD panetelas gifted to me by Keith. I tried to make those cigars last as long as possible!

Not exactly the same as the floral note I have experienced in other marcas though

Dude Punch RS12... Wow great stick and the 11's were a fav of mine....sad they are long gone never to be seen again. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. And I agree with most of what has been posted about floral being equal to how wildflowers/potpouri smell

I'll set some aside for the next time you come down to "the man cave".
