stigmata Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 horrible ..horrible crime as are so many crimes of huge proportion going on around the world. all must be punished equally so as some kind of care to the world and people may prevail
kwsaw63 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I heard an interesting interview with an aviation consultant on the radio this morning. He discussed the risk assessments they undertake when they prepare their flight plans. He claimed that most other airlines weren't using that route due to the situation in Ukraine. Some airlines had re-routed but many others were still using the same route. There was a Singapore Airlines flight just 25km behind MH17 and an Air India flight also 25km away from MH17 but heading in the opposite direction.
Fuzz Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 My parents were on the same route last week. Personally, I hope those responsible are flayed alive.
partriar Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I just found out the sister and brother-in-law to some very close friends of mine where aboard this plane. My deepest condolences to everyone affect in this terrible, heinous crime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pedro2486 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I believe 28 Australians were among the passengers with 7 from my neck of the woods, including a grandfather travelling with 3 of his grandchildren. I just heard on the radio, the Russian Ambassadors response to our PMs questions was sub-par to say the least. An absolutely disgraceful act. A war crime IMHO. WTF is going on on this earth?
MIKA27 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 One wouldn't assume to know anyone of only close to 300 passengers but one of the Aussies (A tenant) works in one of the towers I manage in Southbank here. I don't know him myself. We run a large TV in the lobby and the tenant asked us to stop the news footage from showing as it is too distressing for their colleagues. Understandably so. RIP
Mahstah Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 My Condolences to the families and friends of those on board, it just sucks all the way around.
MrGTO Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 How ****ed are we as a society when people post on Facebook when they shoot a plane full of people down...... There seems to be no respect for human life anymore.... Sad for all affected 2
aaron878 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Roughly 100 people, A full 1/3 of the passengers were some of the worlds top AIDS researchers on their way to a conference in Melbourne. http://www.smh.com.au/national/crash-claims-top-aids-researchers-heading-to-melbourne-20140718-zuaw3.html#ixzz37mkAFtTn

aaron878 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 In my opinion this was very poorly trained Ukrainian separatists who had no idea what they were shooting at. 1

Fuel is an expensive commodity and carrying extra amounts of the 'motion potion' more-so. From what I've read the NOTAM (Notice To Airmen) for activity in that Flight Information Region was up to 32000ft and thus it was entirely legal to plan a flight (like other airlines) through that region at a level higher than this. Risk assessments are truly a balancing act when companies are desperate to save each kg of fuel carried, which on a long-haul flight meas you need to carry 1.5kg just to end up with 1kg at the end of a flight. On a personal note: My partner left last night on a Malaysian flight and i woke up this morning to a bunch of voicemails from as far away as Alaska wondering if everything was ok before I had even seen the news. It's been a long time since I've balled my eyes out before even getting out of bed. Prayers to the families of the passengers and crew (who have already suffered greatly). Sadly I don't thing MAS will survive this.

Dude was just bragging that he downed what he thought was an enemy cargo plane.
... Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Actually it was removed when they realized it was a passenger jet. Dude was just bragging that he downed what he thought was an enemy cargo plane. Still wrong. The pilots have family too and are not soldiers. Why try and kill anybody anyways? What's the point to do so and how moral is it to be proud of doing so? 1
MrGTO Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 My point was about bragging about it on facebook wether military or civilian. That's just sick to me.
sw15825 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 In my opinion this was very poorly trained Ukrainian separatists who had no idea what they were shooting at.Maybe but a terrible crime anyhow. Also imho the so called "Separatists" ? Really a smoke screen for Russia. Regardless If they lived in Ukraine, Russia started, supports and armed them from all I have heard. Then initally said it was the Govt. of Ukrain who shot it down when the story first came out. Hmmm.

Smallclub Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The missile launching station would deserve the visit of a drone, if you see what I mean… 2
Dbone Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 My prayers to those poor people and their families. Someone wants to start a war.
finecigar Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 What a tragedy for the world. My prayer and deepest thoughts to all who've died, lost loved ones, or knew passengers. The photos of the crash site I have seen are so eerie and disturbing. Nearly 300 lives.... I hope whoever was responsible pays the price...
Clynch Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Condolences. Very sad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
