dowjr1 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I often hear people saying sticks from a cab are somehow better than those coming from the dress boxes. A lot of my current stogies are in dress boxes and they need some rest time. Anyone move their stock from DBs into old cab boxes for better age results?
Maplepie Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Me. But only for cosmetic purposes. Unless they're limited edition dress boxes, naturally... (i'm seeing double! )
tmac77 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Cabs are better than DB's for aging. I always try to move mine into old cabs when available.
Firebender Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 You can put them in cabs but they are still box pressed..
Maplepie Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 You can put them in cabs but they are still box pressed.. hmmmmmmm... i wonder if anyone moves the Cabinets to Dress Boxes in order to box press them.
Ginseng Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I moved Firebender's post over and deleted the duplicate thread. Wilkey 1
Popular Post Ginseng Posted June 6, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2014 I prefer to move my cigars out of dress boxes into cabs whenever: 1. I have a spare cab lying about 2. I have multiple boxes and want to build a super-cab. Wilkey 8
Phillys Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I also move all dress box stock to cabs or semi boite natures if I don't have any extra cabs.
polarbear Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I don't move cigars from a dress box to a cab but do always buy cabs if possible. I'll save my pennies a bit longer and buy a cab of RASS or Party Shorts before I'd buy a dress box 2
maxcjs0101 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Any reason why slb's age better than dress boxes? From my limited understanding, the cedar from the slb will impart some aromas to the cigars and they also contain air better compared to the dress boxes. Anything else?
PapaDisco Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 If you calculate the opening area of a SLB vs. a Dress Box you'll find that the SLB has much less opening area. Also, the way the cigars are packed into a SLB vs a Dress Box means that they're more exposed to the cigar next to them than the air. So SLB cigars all bundled up have somewhat less 'exterior' to the bundle and less air circulation than a Dress Box. All one can calculate is the difference in volumes and opening area. How much air actually circulates in and out (and it will be different even if the lids are never opened on either) is unknown, but apparently some folks can taste the difference.
BonVivant Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I did an experiment with LGC Tainos and put 50 of it into an empty cab of Bolivar Corona Gigantes - guess what happened over a period of only one year?

straizor Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 a friend of mine rolles every single cigar he ages in cellophane. they age slower and longer. so this way it doesn't matter weather its in DB or Cabs the oils of the cigar stay there. belive me, i've tried his stuff and it work. problem is that i'm way to lazy to do that

Here I'm barely reasonable enough to make small labels with the date codes for my stogies 1

Wonder if sarin wrap would work… Sent from my Q10 using Tapatalk
straizor Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Oh wow, Michel... where does he get the cellos? Wonder if sarin wrap would work… Sent from my Q10 using Tapatalk haha. you canadian guys call it sarin wrap. you have to do it with the young sticks. if you get a box with already some age on it, say 10yrs <, its not gonna work so great anymore.

WHOOPS. Saran wrap... Not Sarin, the nerve gas but moving on: of course, of course... where would he get the cello, though? hard to find them unless you have a few Yankee mates who only smoke Non-Cubans... but if they were your mates, good chance they won't be ONLY smoking non-Cubans!!
Ginseng Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 What boxes did you use for this? They seem perfect for Lonsdalse Cabs! I don't recall what boxes I used. They are well buried in my coolers and I haven't an idea which one they're in. Sorry! Wilkey
