El Presidente Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 It wasn't what i wanted, But hell it will do. I had to trade my sons Fiat Punto as it was getting worse by the month. Dinero people...serious dinero. I loved that Punto (1.9l Sport Diesel) as it flew. I thought it would be a great first car and it was for a time. Then the costs started and it wasn't. In my name....got a 2k trade on a new Hyundai I20. Ben wrote off the Punto 24 hrs after I signed the trade. 4 car accident. He was fine. I forgot that I insured the Punto for $11.6 K ......Woohooo. Drove back the Hyundai I20 today from the dealership. Seriously you get a lot of car for your 12.8K. i never want to drive it again. My jeep JK wrangler2007Diesel i traded on a new Jeep Cherokee Overlander Diesel with the offroad/bling package. Take delivery end of month. A long way away from the BMW 330 D Convertible I wanted but still it does 0-100 in 7.5 seconds and 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres. All the options of a Range Rover Vogue and at 1/3 the price with a moon roof to boot. I still need a car to go on the beach/ sand and if I put the JK wrangler in the warehouse it would deteriorate to a point of serious $. i will wait until the next buying cycle for the BM. If there is a person with a Jeep Cherokee Overlander Diesel out there...tell me how they are in real life! Looking forward to it landing. Still reticent with jeep albeit I have owned one for 7 years. Jeep = Just Empty Every Pocket.
Skyfall Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I've had a Cherokee before and liked it, not the Diesel, but still like it. The new ones are nice! 1
Mr Cholmondley Warner Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 My brother in law was a jeep fiend. ...driving a Holden ute now though!?!? I've been a prolific Skyline owner, forced into a cx-7 by the wife....who doesn't even drive it! Audi S3 is on the cards next
dicko Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is on my hit list. half the price of a land cruiser. big towing. looks good. heard they go all right off road.
Miner Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I have a 2011 Grand Cherokee petrol, best value for money at the time and the new model is even better. I'll definitely replace it with a new one in a couple of years time just to get the newer model.
Warren Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 At least the i20 is the same color as the FIAT. If you squint you won't even notice.
Duxnutz Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Have had several Jeep Grand Cherokees sans the last 5 yrs production but want one really bad. Drove my '96 even without a functioning radiator for 20 miles. Love the damn things but can't justify it currently as I don't have kids or 5 wives to cart around..
Hash Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Good choice many positive reviews on the 2014 models, thinking of buying one myself but probably the petrol version , diesel is not available here.
Drguano Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 The wife finished off her '98 Acura 3.2 TL and is in the terminal throes of deciding on a replacement. The finalists are a 2011 Acura RL with 32K miles on it and a new 2014 MINI Cooper S AWD Countryman with a manual transmission. I am pulling for the MINI.
SCgarman Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Do you Aussies not have Gasoline down there?? Everythings a Diesel?? Gasoline is much cheaper in price here in the states.
Fuzz Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Do you Aussies not have Gasoline down there?? Everythings a Diesel?? Gasoline is much cheaper in price here in the states. E10 (petrol with 10% ethanol) is cheaper than diesel, 95RON is about on par and 98RON is more expensive.
Guyman1966 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Like you, I'm in the car market. It seems that the last 2 cars went to other family members. I traded in my 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible so my wife could get a New Ford Edge. Now, I'm driving a Ford Expedition with 203K miles! We call her The Beast. I'm going to give the Beast to my son for his Sr. Year in H.S. Now, I'm looking at a VW CC or 2015 VW Golf. But, the new 1.0 versions of the Golf will be hitting the showrooms here next month and assembled in Puebla, Mexico. I am concerned about the Golf's from Mexico.
Drguano Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I am concerned about the Golf's from Mexico. I thought it was Gulf of Mexico... 1
dafrey23 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Do you Aussies not have Gasoline down there?? Everythings a Diesel?? Gasoline is much cheaper in price here in the states. That's not entirely true. Diesel is more expensive per gallon in the States, but you usually get quite a bit more MPG on diesel than gas. On a $/mile basis it's probably pretty close, might even favor Diesel. It's a case by case (car by car) basis.
mk05 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 In regards to mpg, it dpends how far you drive, as diesel is a very thick sludge and takes time for it to warm up to temp. Does AUS insurance pay the original price of the damaged vehicle in replacement, not the present value? Trying to understand what you meant by, "insured for 11.6K." Did you get 11.6K for your Punto with PV of 2K?
Marker Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Marc, there are some insurance companies in the US that will insure at insured value instead of current market value replacement. AUS might have that as a standard. The US standard is current market value but some companies are playing the odds and letting people pay a higher rate for insurance at replacement cost or stated value. It is much more popular to have replacement or stated value coverage on new cars because of the large drive off the lot value hit. Instead of buying gap insurance for a car loan you can get insurance that lets you replace the car.
AbuAmelia Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Macan turbo ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Cayenne GTS
jrb5783 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Cayenne GTS Love it hows the v8 sound. I thought it was a cayenne but you said small suv that's why I guessed macan. I'd take the gts over a range rover any day Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
sighuber Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Prez, I think you'll be happy. Very nice and comfortable interior, lots of new technology, good fuel economy and it can do this....

Instead of buying gap insurance for a car loan you can get insurance that lets you replace the car. We have either market value or agreed value. The agreed value will not be as high as the purchase price of the vehicle, but will be a set range according the the red book value. You can also get new for old insurance, as long as it is taken up when the vehicle is less than a year old and you continue that level of insurance for the life of the vehicle.
TM-US Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I'm confused- did Pres get a new Jeep Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee? They don't sell an Overland Cherokee in the States. If it's the new Cherokee, I'd be interested in hearing about the diesel, since we don't get that version. I wonder if the Overland is a lux'ed out Trailhawk, with the offroad suspension.
ZinZan Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 The macan just launched in Malaysia, The pricing if i remember its not too bad actually for that segment.
