Had a plugged SLR DC today. It was plugged at just above the middle.

i am not into massaging a cigar. I am not into drilling or using a "Poker".

Just cut below the plug and I have a slightly fatter SLR Serie A.

I just can't fight with my cigars. Serious plugs go int the fridge, the ashtray or have some significant surgery applied!

Faced with the same situation do you persist? Kudos to you if you do.....or are you a medieval surgeon? thinking.gif

If I love the aroma of a cigar, i'll persist.

In fact, the few cigars I ditched were not plugs but underfilled -

overheating harsh examples which were just too violent and bitter to enjoy.

Cheers, Alex

I usually poke it with a long pin, massage it, roll it around, eventually the wrapper starts to fall apart and crack , and yet I still persevere getting more and more pissed off, still hoping it will come good.

None of this ever works, I just end up irritated promising myself next time i'll just pitch it, but in the back of my mind is that one time a badly plugged punch punch opened up beautifully in the last third; that last third was one of those great cigar moments..

Haven't had a plugged stick yet, fingers crossed this lasts for awhile!

Angry masochist. Treat it like a Yakuza foot soldiers finger that has disappointed the boss.

I just drop it in the ashtray and fire up another.

Cut a BHK54 recently that was so plugged I couldn't cold draw it...didn't even put flame to it and just as well my local NZ Habanos dealer swapped it out without question :)

Dry box for a day or two and if that doesn't help into the fridge, and if that doesn't work .... crochet needle or BBQ skewer up the 'arris.

But a plug is a plug, and no matter what you do the smoke and experience will be buggered to some degree.

It all depends upon the cigar. A few days ago I had a plugged Upmann Super Corona (one of my last few) that was plugged and I went medieval on it. I eventually smoked okay but as a half corona. Less rare cigars in my stock get no such treatment and get tossed if a slightly higher cut and no stems can be easily removed to reduce the plug.

I used my cordless drill with a fine gauge drill bit on my last plugged smoke, worked out well. drilled longitudinally from the head toward the foot as the plug was near the band.

I persist to the point when it's still enjoyable, if it becomes purely an aerobic exercise I usually light up another one.

I'll usually toss the plugged cigar and then grab a Padron 1964 series or a Fuente. Don't have to worry about construction issues with these!

I'm a cutter. I'd rather some of the cigar the none of the cigar. It becomes a quick smoke and some times it's exactly what I want.

If the plug is at the head of the cigar, I'll throw it in the fridge and see if the decreased moisture in the cigar will give the smoke a little more room to make it's way through.

I perform surgery on them with drill and poker after an extensive stay in the fridge. If that doesn't work I usually toss them. Shame when it happens

All that SH-T doesn't work. Find the plug and cut it!

Let's talk about loose draws?

One try with a poker and then it's into the fireplace.

Ditto. My evening smoke is supposed to be relaxing, not a fist fight with a plugged cigar.....sad.png

I try the fridge trick. If that doesn't work I throw them back in the humi and hope they'll loosen up over time.

Some do, some don't. I've tried the massage and poke routine a few times, generally not with great results so will revert to the cut-off approach in future.

Hmm, I've got a few really old sticks that have never come around, maybe time to give the old cut a try!
