El Presidente Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Released in 2012. A Petit Robusto competing with Petit Edmundo, HDM Petit Robusto etc. 1. Have you actually tried one. 2. What are your thoughts. R&J has had a comeback in the past 24 months but this is one cigar that has never captured my imagination. I try one once a month but do my darndest to pass it over. Am I wrong? Your thoughts?
Hohenthal Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 After what I read/heard I did not even try one, shame on me because I like a good Ex 4, Romeo 2 and other RyJ - I guess i should give them a chance?
sheppsea Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I have had one but wasn't impressed with that, I know you shouldn't base your opinions on one cigar, but I'm certainly not rushing out to try another.
melies Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Had one when they first came out, and it was horrible, a big pass for me.
asmartbull Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 It is forgetable. ..I am not even sure I would classify the last 2 yrs as a come-back sent while mobile....
Duxnutz Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 It is forgetable. ..I am not even sure I would classify the last 2 yrs as a come-back... What RyJ have let you down? Ex #4s, Mille Fleurs and even the Churchills have been decent that I've seen in the last 18 months. Small sample size of singles tho.

Small sample size of singles tho. Years ago this marca was the benchmark for what an Habano should taste like. .I don't see "decent" as a come-back and in fact we won't know for a few more yrs how recent production really is. There are just many more cigars to spend $ on, that are much better now and I believe to have better legs for the future....taste is so subjective, I am sure there are many that will take the opposite position. sent while mobile....
Oscar300 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I tried three on original release, I enjoyed two of them, pitched one, far to harsh, no profile. Treated myslef to a HQ box a while back now, tried one.............awful . There at the back of the humidor asleep for now.....
ErikB Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Have a soft spot for them but that's because I remember their launch at the gala dinner at the Habanos Festival in 2012.
Lotusguy Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Had a fiver. 2 were great, 2 were underfilled and harsh. The last one plugged. Thumbs down.
CaptainQuintero Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Honestly haven't tried them and forgot they even existed :s I'm not sure RyJ needed another small format cigar, plenty good choices already there to pick from: Cedros de luxe Cedros #3 Millie fleur Sport largos Etc etc etc
El Presidente Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 It is forgetable. ..I am not even sure I would classify the last 2 yrs as a come-back sent while mobile.... Among some of the best cigars (aroma/wrapper construction). R&J Exhibicion 4 2012 R&J Wide Churchill 2013 R&J Churchill 2013 R&J Petit Coronaa 2013 * the E4/Churchill/and PC are light years ahead of much the rubbish being produced for much of 2000 = 2011 I have found the only major disappointment to be the R&J Short Churchill that has gone backwards.
Strada Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I tried a couple. For me, they were forgettable... In LCDH Montreal, we haven't been selling much either compare to the other of the Churchill serie. On the positive side, Exhibition 4 have been great

This is a great example if why this hobby is so fun....taste is so subjective. For me the Churchill is the best of the bunch, but I think it is way to soon to tell. True, the aroma and wrappers are superb, the taste just leaves me wanting more. For my taste, I really prefer the 04 el's sent while mobile....
Lant63 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I smoked two along with a brother and we decided that they were among the worst CC we had smoked. I havent returned to the Marca.
Louich Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Loved the size but I rather have something else as it did not wow me.
polarbear Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Smoked one when they first hit the market and I was underwhelmed by it. I smoked a couple more recently in case newer box dates were better than ORs. Couldn't find anything enjoyable about the sticks. I'll stick with Ex4's and Wide Churchills, thanks all the same

I agree with Rob on this, those examples listed above have been spectacular. As far as an EL is concerned, It doesn't even hold a light to the 2009 DUKE. That thing was fantastic!!!!!

What do you mean by 2000=2011 ? For ryj or generally?
El Presidente Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 What do you mean by 2000=2011 ? For ryj or generally? I was referring to R&J. looking again, I wasn't enamored with R&J early 2000's with some exceptions, but was increasingly appalled 2004/5 on. When you open some 8-10,000 boxes a year you get a feel for what is happening. Take R&J E4. From one of the great hermoso/robusto to a shadow of its past come 2005. Woeful for the next 5 years (yes there is always an exception but generally...woeful). The love, know how, passion ....something had gone. It Roughly coincided with the closure of the R&J factory but it was increasingly happening prior. The R&J Short Churchill Release saw some brilliant cigars produced and then the quality faded away after about 12 months. Then in and around 2011/2012 I started seeing some stellar R&J stock. It has continued/strengthened since then. Yes there are still some dodgy offerings but overall it is a huge skew right on the quality (and flavour) curve. Today is a case in point. One of my last assignments was to go through the R&J Petit Corona. Without doubt the finest Petit Coronas of any marque this month and perhaps the best of the last 6 months. I am smoking one now (they captured my attention). Cherry/Toasted tobacco/ sweet Liquer. This is R&J at it's best.
SigloVI Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Picked up a box when first released and have really enjoyed them
cigarbreak Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Tried the petit twice and never went back to it. That being said I did pick up a 10 of the RyJ SC's and i have been enjoying them.
Stevieboy Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I bought a tubed 3_pack in Berlin. Really enjoyed them so far. Would definitely consider getting more
