CaptainQuintero Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 What's your favoured method? I've seen people mention ovens on low temp with the door open Hair dryers (tried this takes ages!) Would putting them in the refrigerator work?
polarbear Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Microwave them Low power for 30 seconds at a time Works for silica gel, dont see why it wouldnt work for heartfelt beads I found the fridge didnt work You could put them in a containter with an open packet of Damp Rid too
CaptainQuintero Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 I've been sat with a hair dryer and 5lb of beads for three hours, not impressed at all lol. I'm thinking seal them in a tupper wear with dehumidifying beads from aquarium suppliers?
Skyfall Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I've used refrigerator and it works, but what really works is filling a clean baby diaper with your beads, they will be dry in no time.
Cohiba Stevie Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Get HCM beads mate. I gave up on heartfelt beads, way too unstable. They also deteriorate over time.
Rye Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Buy (and eat) 48 packs of beef jerky, and save all the little "do not eat" packets inclosed, then put all of them in a Tupperware with your beads and seal it up. Right about the time you are feeling better after eating that much fine dried meats, (if you survive) your beads should be right as rain! 2
sw15825 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I need to purchase beads. Does anyone know what humidity level HCM beads maintain at? I read facts on their site, but don't get how you "set" the level in a closed container. I have heartfelt beads in cooleridoors and they are dying I think.
CaptainQuintero Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 I think I've actually found the issue....dodgey boveda hygrometer testing kit :S
sw15825 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Didnt mean to thread jack. To the OP I have dried mine at warming temp in an open oven so they don't overheat. But mine have deteriorated over time.
Maplepie Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 put them outside in the sun. put them in an open container at a ratio 2:1 [Charged Beads : Dry Kitty Litter]. make SURE they don't mix. kitty litter has honestly been my best friend for cigars...
Jeremy Festa Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I just put them in the sun! SE Qld sun is quite obviously different to the average sun. It's like its on steroids. My pool level can drop 2 inches in a day. As such, every time I have put my beads out they have ended up bone dry. From my mobile phone
ogus Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Buy (and eat) 48 packs of beef jerky, and save all the little "do not eat" packets inclosed, then put all of them in a Tupperware with your beads and seal it up. Cohiba Stevie Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I would say microwaving is by far the worst option. A quick google as to how a microwave works will quantify

TheKid Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 The lowest setting on your oven shouldnt ruin them depending on their composition. Best used for large amounts of beads. For small amount of beads dried rice would work quite well pretty much the principle as kitty litter

I work with lots of electronics and they are developed in the states and are tested for environmental toughness there. They come to the NW of WA and die.... Especially LCD screens and solid state sensors. I would imagine we would dry beads faster than others but will it degrade them?
sharks Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I used an old oil heater we had placed them on there for abit not to hot perfect!
CaptainQuintero Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 Pretty much sun and patience I'm in the UK! I'll be like the old Templar guarding the holy grail from Indiana Jones! 2
Vortigan Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 An aptly timed thread. My Heartfelt's seem to be very suddenly failing in my coolers.Been rock solid 65% since I got them but just now sitting at 59-60%.Time for a calibration before hitting the panic button.
liger930 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Ive laid out a pound or two on a baking tray out back in the sun here in socal. They dried within a few hours.
CUBANO Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I use a heat gun in the low setting and that works well me.
Laynard Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Open the office window, take the beads out in the morning. Let the dry climate work it's magic while at work. Replace in the evening before the ambient humidity starts to rise. 1

Mine too. Mine are about 6 years old and they just don't seem to work like they used to. I am thinking HCM beads as I hear great feedback on them.
Cohiba Stevie Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Mine too. Mine are about 6 years old and they just don't seem to work like they used to. I am thinking HCM beads as I hear great feedback on them. Ive recently made the switch to HCM beads and i have been using them for about 3 weeks. I know its early days but i think they are leagues ahead of heartfelt. RH is much more stable, the heartfelt beads used to spike my RH with the slightest of temp changes. My humi also recovers a lot quicker when i close the door after extended periods of opening. I use a wifi hygro and temp sensor so all my data is compiled on a graph for later analysis. I would be happy to supply my monthy comparison so you can see the difference. It will take another few months if im going to get concrete and substantiated evidence. But let me say that early indicators make the hcm beads the far superior product
