My father-in-law has a box of Monte A's from 1996. He only smokes them on very special occasions such as his children's college graduations, weddings, his grandchildren's births, etc.

I have a 9 month old daughter and just found out we are expecting another one in about 8 months. I've been looking for "THE" box to buy to let sit and enjoy only during those most special of moments in life. Here are my considerations:

  • Regular productions and reservas only (no LE or RE);
  • Box of 25 or cab of 50, either is fine;
  • 50 ring gauge or less;
  • 6 inches or longer;
  • Disregard price;
  • Assume no marca preference (but if you needed to know I love Partagas P No. 2 and Lusitanias;
  • Ages well

Question: If you had to buy ONE box or cab for the best moments and memories of your life, what would it be?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts...

(if Cohiba made a 'long thinny' Behike as Mr. Ken Gargett suggested this question would be moot.)

I would have to go with a HQ box of Cohiba Lanceros. Will age incredibly and to me a perfect cigar for celebration.

I have a box of Sir Winnies for such an occasion, but the CoLa is my second choice. Thinking about getting a box of those soon.

I will be smoking the first SW in about a month after my daughters first birthday party. Can't wait for both, but the cigar is just icing on the cake when it comes to such milestones.

Little different answer for you. But what I would do is pick a 50 cab with the month and year of your childs birth and then smoke one cigar from it every year on their birthday. I also would pick up a box or two of say something like a Monti 2 with the year and month of your child's birth to save and smoke at their wedding.

Easy, 50 cab of Lusi and a box of the GR Lusi for the even more special occasions.

Why not get the cigar you like in a PSP from Rob. This way you assure yourself you will have a great cigar 20 years from now. Good Luck

Doesn't really fit what your after but Rob hand picked a psp box of RNJ Wide and I couldn't be happier. I wanted everything you are asking for to celebrate my sons cake day each year. They look beautiful. Will smoke my first in June. To be honest I think if they tasted bad they would taste good just reflecting on a year that has passed haha.

Co-sign on getting him to hunt you down something.

I would go for a box of Bolivar Coronas Gigantes...can't go wrong. They age marvelously and are worth saving for special times.

Also agree with a 50 cab of lusi's or even the lusi GR especially since you say you enjoy that cigar.

Honestly, any cigar can be a great special occasion cigar, it just depends on your preference and budget.

First off Cograts on the good news. I did just this last year after the birth of my first child, a girl, and after much debate and input went with a box of Sir Winstons. I had the same thoughts as you of what I wanted and it was between the Siglo VI or the Winnies and went with the Winnies based on recommendation and the fact that as rob has said they just exude class and comlexity that gives them the legs to age 10, 20+ yrs. I smoked one this year after her first birthday and couldn't be happier, it was a great cigar with just a year on it and it showed itself to have legs for years. Good Luck to you and your wife and in making your purchase.

Box of CGR if price was no option. Otherwise a 50 Cab of Part Luises with a bit of age or the Part GR

I agree with the 50 cab of Lusi's. It's one you already love, like your children, and will are gracefully.

I have no children of my own, but my brother had his first child 2 weeks ago and i'll be looking for something with her birth month and year in the future for a similar celebratory smoke.

My daughters are 18 and 22, but this post still sounds pretty cool, I may still have time to do something similar as neither are married yet

Since you probably have the Lusitanias, why not try the Punch or SLR Double Coronas. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Another guy had an idea sort of like this, only it wasn't with CC's. Boxes of Padron Family Reserve 45th maduros come in 10 count. So he bought 2. 1 for the day his daughter was born, 1 for every year on his daughter's birthday until she was 18, and then 1 on her wedding day. I thought it was a pretty neat idea.

I know you stated no LEs but LEs are the only Cubans with the year on the band. So for me, for that occasion, it would be 2 boxes of 25 of whatever LE, 1 to smoke every year and the other as a gift on the 18th/21st birthday.

Otherwise I'd wait for the right Reserva/Gran Reserva so the harvest 3 or 5 years previously was "Cosecha 2014"

Lots of good suggestions. Another vote for the SW Upmanns or as someone said the Bolivar Corona Gigantes age very well. A fifty cab of those would be very nice. Good luck and have fun searching for the ONE

Partagas Lusitanias Gran Reserva

Hands down. Go for it. :)

And really makes sence with LE because the year on the ring ( even though you stated no no)
