HarveyBoulevard Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I recently ran across a box of 2008 Cohiba Siglo V's and wanted to get the FOH'ers thoughts on this cigar from this year. The price is higher than current year stock but it is not exorbitant either. I have only been smoking cc's for a couple of years now and don't know much about past years stock. I know some years have been duds and others top notch and don't want to spend good coin on an aged smoke if it was a bad year. I have some boxes laying down to age but I have not had the opportunity to smoke many 'aged' cc's so I would love to buy a box with some years on them. Question: Would you spend good money on 25 count box of Cohiba Siglo V's from 2008? If you want to go into why, I appreciate your time. Given my current local, I do not have access to the box so I cannot examine the contents to assist in my decision. Thanks in advance.
Blakes Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I can't comment on '08 siglo V pacifically but I think there's good and bad from every year, a good idea would be to ask the vendor to give you their opinion and an appraisal of them, maybe even send a picture or two! 1
AlohaStyle Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 08 was a good year for Cohiba generally. If I know the box was stored correctly, I would pay a premium for a box of 08's. 2
Bartolomeo Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 CoRo and Sig 6.....yes, I have some of the MEL coded ones from 08 that I have had good luck with I am not a big fan of the Sig V any year but thats just me.....if you enjoy Sig V overall why not take the chance if its in your budget? 2
SurpriseMVP Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Agree 100% with Bart. Sig V not my favorite either. If the box code is MEL on the ones your looking at its a safe bet they are high quality. Mike 1
Pedro2486 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Dunno about Siglo V, they're not really my favoured format. But I have had Siglo IV from '08 and they were great. I'd definitely pick up a box if it came my way
Rye Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I love the Siglo V, and they do need some age to really shine. Given this opportunity I would get them. The 09 tubos I have are wonderful.
Maplepie Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I'm going to stock up on some Siglo IIIs i have from a mate who's selling. Same year and i've heard nothing but raving reviews on those! My 08 IIs are smoking FANTASTICALLY. Final third could be better, but 2 years down will fix that.
Dimmers Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 if price is reasonable , then provenance would be my only other concern. Have you smoked and love the profile of Siglo V's previously (sorry not clear in my read of your post whether you refer to recent boxes being V's) ? if you haven't, I wouldn't suggest spending coin if you aren't sure you will like the profile (whether aged or not).
HarveyBoulevard Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I've had a handful of the v's and enjoyed them. It is also my favorite vitola. Price is reasonable and never had a problem with the 'provenance' so I feel good. Sounds like the general consensus is the 08's are smoking well. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. Much appreciated.
Hiroshiro Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Smoked a 08 Sig V couple of weeks ago. It was great enough so for me to look for some boxes. I'd say if you find them get them 1
