Skyfall Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I often get such flavors as: Cream, Coffee, Taffy, Custard, Dates/Prunes, Chocolate, Shortbread, Leather, Nuts It is rare for me to come across: Honey , Floral, Lavender - I love these flavors when I do get them, but it doesn't happen enough.
Laxman Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Cream and chocolate and coffee I get often. Honey has been elusive for me. I hear stories of aged cohiba's kicking out blast of honey. Only have a few 08 boxes of them that I was able to stay away from. One or two times recently when smoking an 08 Coro' I thought there was a bit.

My favorite flavors for cigars, and it is so rare! I love it, I search for this flavor like a mad man!!!

Zigatoh Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Honey, rare for me but I had a box of trini coloniales with a distinct honey flavour but sadly it completely disappeared once they hit a year or so, just there when fresh. Cream, never actual cream, but creamy plenty, like creamy chocolate in a young Hoyo pr (again it seems to fade over time) Other flavour s come through with age for me but the sweetness in particular I find lessens over time.

Wil Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I answered no, yes and rarely. Cream is more of a textural thing for me; I tend to feel it more than taste it. I do get chocolate quite often. Honey on occasions but I'd usually just describe it as sweetness. I guess I don't analyse cigars that much anymore.

Lots of people say they taste it in cohibas, and I barely ever smoke those. I feel like there are some honey overtones in the SCdlH or VR marcas, but i tend to describe it more in the toffee/carmel category, as it's a bit richer, where honey is a less complex sweetness.

Esplendidos and siglo II drip with honey for me, even money so with age

I consistently got mint prominently in them.

I too get that minty, eucalyptus mentholish flavour come thru sometimes. I'm not sure of its origin however, it seems to sometimes be more of an environmental effect to me than a property of the smoke. Then again I'm just guessing

Smalls Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I agree with a lot of the others in that I have trouble finding honey in cigars. I would also say I notice chocolate more than cream. I've never had a cohiba with much age on it. I will try to get my hands on one… It's hard to let them sit though.
SaintLuis Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 What's really crazy is the difference in flavor profiles with NCs to CCs. Different universe, unless you're exclusive to connecticuts and colorados wrapped sticks. I find the cabaiguan sometimes has some similar profiles, but generally, Nicaraguan and Dominican have pepper and spice, coffee and more bitter, sharp/tastes. Same with the Ecuadorian sun growns and dominican Rosados. So much stronger, louder tastes to wade through than with the cuban marcas. I can't imagine tasting honey for example, in any of the NCs I'm introducing some friends at a poker game I frequent to CCs, and I shared some Bolivar RCs with them. I told them they are on the stronger side of CCs,and they were blown away at how mild it was. Both were kind of underwhelmed until the first third was past, and they were like "wow, this is so smooth!" and started picking off some of the more subtle flavors.
