Webbo Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Absolutely loving the Party Short right now but sometimes they are just not big enough.Perhaps a stupid question but what's a larger size that comes closest to resembling the Shorts flavours? D4?
Bahnofstrasse Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Partagas Petit Coronas Especiales...underrated stick at a great price 1
Orion21 Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 The 898 is nothing like the short. The short is its own cigar. Just smoke two of them if you want a longer experience. 1
potpest Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 The 898 is the same ring gauge but longer. Similar flavour but much more complex. It's definitely the closest bigger cigar out of the partagas lineup which resembles the short IMO
Orion21 Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 The blend of the 898 is 180 degrees from the short. The short is really twangy, in your face and kind of brash. The 898 I have smoked were very subdued with cream, white pepper and wood. The older 898 gain a sweetness. 1
khomeinist Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Partagas has been gutted unfortunately. You can find good 898 and SD4 boxes but I do not recommend blind purchases for these.
ramon_cojones Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 ^whatchu talkin bout willis When I sparked up a fresh 898 earlier this week, sup hiro, i was instantly reminded of a short. As I smoked it though it became less like one. 1

Isn't really anything in the Marca quite like the short. Like others have said if you want more, smoke a second. Of course there are plenty of killer Parti offerings and I enjoy most of them, but the short is unique.

As I smoked it though it became less like one. I was not implying that the 898 resembles a short. Clearly the 898 is a more complex cigar. As to whether Partagas is a shadow of it's former self, this is fairly obvious as well.
Coolio Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I love both the 898 and Shorts, but for me the 898 takes about 3 times as long to smoke and provides a different tasting experience. I couldn't say the D4 comes too close in flavour either, although I have had a few Shorts that had lashings of pepper similar to the D4. I've got two Shorts boxes (25's) on the go at the moment. They are both AGO 13, and they are both smoking beautifully. Interestingly, they are completely different smokes though. One box is much lighter in shade, the other is far more dark and oily. The lighter shade i can smoke with a cup of tea, the darker I need to smoke with a scotch. It's very interesting how different they are.
dvickery Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 charlottes ... not a lot bigger but bigger and (to me) are very close to a short . have fun finding some tho . derrek
LGC Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Partagas PCs in cab. Oh wait! What am I talking about? Most of the good cigars have been cut.. I would just smoke two shorts.
hoyopr Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I would also smoke a second one. I haven't tried any of the suggested others have mentioned and the only 2 partagas I keep in rotation are these and the 898's, which are very different imo.

They are a bit longer.
Smallclub Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Anyone know how the super partagas compares to shorts? They are a bit longer. My 2013 SP are super strong, mainly earthy and somehow peaty and matte. They remind me the first batch of 2007 Culebras, but even stronger. I like them but it's not something you want to smoke everyday…
Maplepie Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Culebras. If those are too small for you as well, then try smoking all 3 at the same time!!
