Stevieboy Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I've been hearing a load of rumours regarding the 898 but today I was checking out a German retailer that I use and they have a preliminary listing (ie not for sale). Quite exciting news for me to see it confirmed.... Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Guybrush Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I think what you have seen was the price for the long sold out "old" 898.
Stevieboy Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 True.... post edited to remove the price.... the site does list both the discontinued and the 2014 version Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Smallclub Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 For some reason, in Europe, price listings, and lists of authorised cigars (importation allowed), are never updated, or maybe every 15 years… This is why you can still find cigars like the Upmann Super Corona, Punch Ninfas, Hoyo du Dauphin, etc. on french, spanish, german or swiss listings…
Perla Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 You are right rumours are saying that the RE 2014 should be RA 898. This would make me quite happy as I like smaller RG. Coming back to earth there is still no sign of the RE 2013 Rafael Gonzales Petit Pyramides, so far. So rumours are rumours as long as they are not for sale my 2 cents.
shlomo Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I have heard this "confirmed" with an asterisk from several prominent German and European vendors. This, while I suppose still a rumour, is a rumour I would not bet against.

This, while I suppose still a rumour, is a rumour I would not bet against. Pretty solid confirmation from the importer 5th Avenue in Germany. However, the release date is (as always) up in the air. The problem is that they won't come in at less than 20 euro a stick, if recent LE, RE, and LCDH release pricing in Germany is any indication

BTW, have you tried your neighbors Petite Unicos from last year? Great smoke especially as it brings back great memories for me from having one here. Still widely available in Zurich and Luzern...

dangolf18 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I haven't seen a Germany regional over 15 euros a cigar. The RA Beli was around 14 dollars when released. If under $18, I'll get a couple singles.

At 500 euro for a 25 ct, less so.

If under $18, I'll get a couple singles. You have no idea how much I hope to be wrong However they've really been pushing it with the Boli Libertador, the Torreon, and the 2013 LEs. The higher duties and strong euro don't help either. The RA Beli was 4 years ago, IIRC. 5ta Avenida re-release about 18 euro/ea. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
oliverdst Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 The recent cigars tax raise in Europe will not affect it?

Have we confirmed that the title of the release will be '898'? If it is, its seems strange they would release an 898 in a 10 count box

shlomo Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I have no idea what format they will come in. Just a comment about perceived value/price.
in0gravity Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 The RA 898 will come in varnished 25 Count boxes. Just like the old ones.

Sorry but I havn't heard anything about (even rumours) about the release of the RG PP. Should I send you a PM when something happened? Yeah I like the VR Petite Unicos - wrote a review in FoH - nice little stick. Thank you for the great pic.
Orion21 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Have we confirmed that the title of the release will be '898'? If it is, its seems strange they would release an 898 in a 10 count box It's all about the name. Considering how they have changed the RE program, making the distributor pay up front for a minimum of 50,000 cigars, I am not surprised they would go with 10 count boxes. Trying to move 5,000 10 count boxes at 200 euro each is much easier than 2,000 boxes at 500 euro each. The customer base expands the lower the price point.
ramon_cojones Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I wouldn't want a 343, doesn't hold true to the name If these are encanto price I'd probably buy some. Do I wish they were cheaper? Of course. Is there anything I can do since an ra lonsdale doesn't exist? No.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I can't see them being that much, I reckon your looking at around 350 euro a box. The 2012 Punch Sir John was only 275 a box
Orion21 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 The pricing model has changed in the last couple of years. If they go with 10 count packaging expect a high price.

Smallclub Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 You can get the superiores corona gorda for $80 a ten count though, close enough vitola for the money saved Yes, but obviously the pricing policy for the LCDH releases is different from that of the Regional programme (is it related to quality of the tobacco used, or to the commercial relationship with the franchise, or whatever else, I don't know).
