Came across some Party shorts today with box code May10. For me they would work out around 20 euros per box more then more recent boxes. Worth the extra ?

Fair point CB, perhaps I should have said "pay a premium for an older box".

If you went into some of the smaller shops around you'd prob find a bunch of boxes sitting on shelves that are 3 years old and still at rrp

Hell, I found 3 boxes of 10 year old discontinued Diplomaticos sitting in a Duty Free that still cost the same as they did when they were released

... doesn't seem exessive

But seriously, the shorts are notorious for being good young or aged,

it's personal preference -

if you like it enough to justify the difference in price, god bless.

But I would'nt.

Cheers, Alex

It might not be aged, but the extra money DOES buy you 3 years of not having to store them if you want to smoke them " 5 years of age or so.

For some of us who don't have the luxury of walking in to a trusted brick and mortar establishment, a small premium for slightly older cigars is the price we have to pay.

I've purchased marginally older boxes here for a slight premium without hesitation. I trust the crew to sell what looks good.

Worth it to me.

GAAP says 5% per annum. :D

Honestly, it goes contrary to all cigar dogma and is rather double-talk when people exclaim that "cigars are for everyone" and yet you see 5-7 year old cigars being sold at double MSRP, essentially taking "everyone" out of the picture. What an absolute shame.

5-7 years, that's at least a somewhat decent "aged" time frame...unfortunately many start to price as aged at the 3 year mark...

Where I can get access to aged box (5 year or more) in the U.S is my question.

Only aged boxes I find is when someone is unloading there stash here on Czar, or here and there they list a few. Tough for us US buyers as I have not been able to find many aged boxes. You also have to know what your getting and have confidence in your vendor. Still looking myself. Czar is by far the best vendor I have come across and have never been disappointed from any of my purchases.

I do pay dearly for aged cigars...as much as double the original price on occasion. But I don't consider anything from '10 to be aged and wouldn't pay any kind of premium. Aged BEGINS for me at 10 years.

I agree although I will pay more for a certain year of a certain cigar. for example, I have smoked through a box and a half of 08 Connie 1s and would gladly pay a premium even though they are only 5 yrs old!

Ill agree with that logic if the price is right

Never worth it.

So you're never going to give yourself the chance to try a Partagas Lonsdale or Upmann #1 or LGC number 1 or ERDM grandes de espana or QDO panetela?

Never?

Seems a strange stance to take for an additional 2 euro on a stick

Nope. I'm not paying extra for a box that might be filled with crap. If HSA ever implements quality control measures I'd consider it, but that isn't going to happen any time soon.

It never happens if you buy from the right places – which are not necessary the most pricey.

How do these sources check to make sure the cigars aren't crap quality?

The same way good vendors do for recent production sold these days…

For instance, and at the higher level of service, what Rob does for cigars boxed in 2012/2013 can be done for cigars from 1998…

Give me a box of Upmann untubed Monarchs, or Punch Black Prince, from 1999, and it will take me 15 seconds to tell if it's crap…
