markmurase Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I came off my mountain bike a few weeks ago and broke my collar bone. Didn't realise it was broken at first because I could use my arm and wasn't in much pain. Went to work for the week and drove my manual transmission car to Czar's deck for the usual Friday session. When I finally went for an Xray it told a different story - the bone's quite a mess Steel plate and screws required to put it all back together. Fortunately, a top Orthopaedic Surgeon is going the operation. It will be in a sling for quite a while but if all goes well should eventually get back to full strength with no restrictions. I go under the knife tomorrow - wish me luck! I'll stay overnight in hospital. Reasonably sure they won't have a cigar lounge I will post to let you all know how the operation went but may not be able to do that for a few days. Thanks for all the friendship and brotherhood in FOH. Cheers, Mark

westg Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 A week with a broken collar bone, knowing you, you probably said it's a little sore but it will come good in a day or two. I hope you have a speedy recovery..do me a favour smoke that Punch when you get out of hospital and let me know what you think. Please don't forget to rest up for a day or two ...very important. Good luck Mark West
NJP Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Slow and easy then turf the bike. Not related but a mate just did the same after purchasing a long board he's 37 and was never really much of a skater so his stack was deserved. He blew his collar bone out of the skin so there wasn't a second he didn't know if it wasn't broken or not. Lap up the recovery and smoke through it mate.
Hohenthal Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 speedy recovery! take care of yourself, cheers, Alex
Jeremy Festa Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hard as nails mate! Get well soon! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Newkarian Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Speedy recovery Mark. I practice anesthesia so if there is any questions you have let me know. I would recommend you look into getting a nerve block from anesthesia for your post operative pain management. It will keep you very comfortable the day of and well into the day after your procedure. Hope all is well and will smoke one in your honor.
markmurase Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Thanks to everyone for your messages. Just getting ready to go into the hospital now. Let's hope the surgeon is having a good day today
nikosdoc Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Speedy recovery my friend. i understand you completely, i am in week 5 of recovery from a surgery on my knee. Every front and side lingament was torn and had to be replaced. stogieluver Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Rub some dirt on it. It'll be okay. Seriously. Hope all goes well. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
melies Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Hope you get better mate, I broke my shoulder back in February in a skiing accident. Luckily I didn't need any surgery but my recovery has been a little slow and painful, but las week for the first time I could star swimming again. The best vibes to you Francisco
canadianbeaver Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Speedy recovery Mark! I have suffered twice with a frozen shoulder, each excruciating and taking a full year to recover. Shoulders are a *****. Be well and spoil yourself.
Rye Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Good luck with the surgery man! I hope the pills they give you after are fun
AndrewNR Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Jeez man, Fancy doing so much with it broken and not even realizing! Lucky no more harm done. Hope the surgery goes smoothly and cleanly and you have a speedy recovery
Dimmers Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Sorry to hear Mark! Hope all went/is going well today.
Nedule Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I did the same thing mountain biking, broke my collar bone & my helmet, luckily not my head, although mine hurt like an MF'er. No surgery for me luckily, heal up time was fairly quick, couple of weeks & I was getting normal movement back. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
markmurase Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 I'm back The surgery went well and I was released from the hospital after overnight stay. My shoulder was a big mess, but no more than expected. AC joint reconstruction. I believe on a scale from 1 to 6: mine is a type 5, where 6 is the worst. Anyway, it's all back together again complete with plate & screws and should be fine. Not much pain at all. I need to do nothing now for 6 weeks to give it a chance to heal before I start physio: it could be worse Thanks to everyone for your thoughts & messages.
gersonmorelli Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 All the best! I broke my shoulder snowboarding back in February... Hurts like a b*tch. I never took care of it and regret it. And it also sucks not being able to mountain bike for at least 6 months!
jangoman88 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 good to hear things went well! hope recovery goes well !
