Let me start by saying I am a die hard Montecristo fan. I love the PE's ,Edmundos , #2', .. You get the point. I just had my first Double Edmundo and I was very disappointed. One of the worst cigars I have had in recent memory. Has anyone else tried them. I would like to hear what you think.

Got a single in bound from a local supplier

Hoping to smoke it this weekend. I'll let you know how i find i but i've not heard many good reviews...

I just had one a week ago, and it started with great (albeit mild) nutty tasting smoke, and I was getting excited when I started getting coffee tastes in the mix, but it really went to hell in a hurry. At the end of the first third it went nasty, and I pitched it out my window just before the halfway point, as it was unsmokable.

Now initially I was pissed off, and swearing off of them forever, but I won't get hasty, and will likely try another, but no time soon.

The date on the box must have been the actual roll date.

Don't waste one now by lighting them yet. Give them at least 6 months, then see where they sit.

I will likely revisit them in a year or so

I had one a few months ago and enjoyed it although I was slightly disappointed by it I found that it lacked complexity and definition in its flavors. that might be due to me having smoked a '02 VR Classicos and less then ten minutes later smokes the double edmundo. I do look forward to revisiting it over the holidays or in the spring.

They seemed to be very inconsistent. The ones I have tried were very good (and I am not a Monte fan at all). Medium to full with that nutty aspect.

However I have heard similar to the previous posts. Let's see how they develop.

The one I had in Havana a couple of weeks ago was one of the most boring, flat cigars I've ever had. Just nothing to it at all. I can't believe they will be all like that so I'll reserve final judgement for now.

Y'all are making me sad. I had high hopes for these.....will have to reserve judgement until I try one though.

Disappointing IMO. Just flat, too mild. Belongs to the OPEN line. Maybe time will fix it? Don't know. I don't plan on buying a box and finding out. Nice band though.

Glad I did not pull the trigger, grab a PSP box of Epi 2's. They have been spot on as of a late. Trying to stock up as many as I can get.

I'm thinking I should have done the same.....but I didn't. : (

The ones i have had have been exceptionally mild.

Not detestable but underwhelming to say the least.

I wont be giving up on them though.

i share the disapointment

awful burning and soapy-like taste :(

we'll see in a couple of months how/if they evolve

I think I ended up smoking two in Havana and they were both quite flat and boring. I wasn't inspired to take a chance on a box.

I was not disappointed but it is not something I would personally be buying a box of as I like more power. I had one of these for breakfast this morning. I enjoyed it a lot. I could taste the complex main Monte profile flavour coming through but it was subtler/sweeter than the Monte's i usually smoke. Limited evolution in flavours, some nice cocoa/espresso hints here and there. It produced thick luscious smoke that clung to my palate which has left a delicious after taste and I have found myself unconsciously licking my gums for a few hours - always a sign for me I enjoyed something. The construction in the first 2/3rds was excellent (firm but open enough to enjoy) but there were tunneling issues in the final third and three touch ups were required. Consequently, perhaps compounded by the 71% humidity it was stored, it became a bit of a little bit of a mongel in the final third but I actually enjoyed that because I was previously thinking... 'must follow up immediately with a robusto'. I wonder if it would have been more bland if I had stored it at a lower humidity.

I would probably not buy a box of these because i love the Monte2/520s and if after a less powerful monte I would reach for a regular edmundo. In my opinion the DoubleEddy cigar and its flavour/strength should have been the basis for the Monte Open series. The Open Eagle reminded me of smoking rolled up card with small trace amounts of monte flavour grated and lightly sprinkled in it. The double edmundo was quite tasty and it has left me desiring more cigars today (in a good way). If the 'open' was meant to be an introduction and to get a novice (perhaps a cig smoker) interested - I believe this (potentially) would achieve that. Provided that it had no construction issues and they could get through a large size. Worth a try.
