Cohiba Stevie Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Belfast, Ireland Pros: location makes it easy to get to other cities. Cons: sectarianism, traffic, weather. If I had the money, I would live in Nice, France.
Nino Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Pros very close to Wörrstadt may you do not know this little village - but this is a really well known as cigar hot spot hot summer & mild winter (mostly) Hush, Perla, hush .... Yeah, forgot about the weather - quite similar to big Wiesbaden ... but better :-) N
jrb5783 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 State college, pa Pros Great college town Good food Good nightlife Great university which I attend Not much crime (my apartment door I usually unlocked) Cons No cigar shops In the middle of central pa 3 miles outside downtown is farmland I love it but wish there was a decent cigar shop I could go to in the upcoming winter months
galtline Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 you forgot some more cons: nowhere to go except the same 5 places most of it has no history and not much culture/character pathetic restaurants as compared to LA people are mostly stuck up aholes and are uninteresting roads are smooth though LOL! and my favorite place to smoke is there I will agree to that 100 percent ! pathetic restaurants as compared to LA people are mostly stuck up aholes and are uninteresting I almost forgot USC Football a major Pro --So I can watch Notre Dame local..
thebigk Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Mobile, Alabama (pronounced Mobeal, Alafukinbama) Pro's: beautiful sugary white sand beaches close by (Gulf Shores and Orange Beach) Mobile Bay sunsets in the spring and fall great seafood restaurants everywhere 2 hours to the New Orleans French Quarter Friendliest people anywhere Generally mild winters Traffic not much of a problem Can get anywhere in town in less than 15 minutes (population about 350k) Con's: Bama (University of Alabama football) fans EVERYWHERE Summer's hot as hell with 90% humidity, but usually a Gulf of Mexico breeze to cool things off) Airport is small, nice, but flights are expensive and limited nonstop destinations. Most flights go to Atlanta first and then from there. HURRICANE'S can be a *****. We hate the months of August and September here. Prime of hurrican season. How's the weather in March ? Taking the wife to the Beach Club for a week on her 30th
stogieluver Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 How's the weather in March ? Taking the wife to the Beach Club for a week on her 30th That's about a mile down the beach from our beach house. Very nice complex. The weather the end of March should be very nice. The water will still be too cold to get in, unless you're used to very cold water. Day time temps should vary between 70 and 80 degrees and night time lows in the 50's/lower 60's. Stay in touch by email and I can give you some good (by "Redneck Riviera" standards LOL) restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. You absolutely must take a night and go to the Flora Bama, the world famous road house bar on the Alabama/Florida state line...about a 30 minute drive from your condo. You can see our beach house and some photo's of the beach, etc here: http://www.vrbo.com/248410

GoJohnnyGo Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Savannah Pros beautiful historic city, close beach though not a good beach, pretty good food and night life. Good size, it has everything I need but isn't overly congested. Cons lots of poverty and less than desirable areas throughout the city, hot and humid.
mk05 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Best part: Patriots and Patriots fans Worst part: Bruins and Red Sox fans who destroy the city after getting here drunk. Just wrecks the T and the streets.

Always wondered whether the mullet toss was about the fish or the hairstyles though! My folks lived in Gulf Shores for years and if you needed a beer on Sunday, where'd ya go?
ZinZan Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 KL, Malaysia Pros Really good and cheap food. Ranging from seafood to all the Asian fare. Pretty good beaches and diving an hours flight or 4-5 hours of driving from KL. Relatively affordable cost of living. The cheapest hotel in the region not sure the reason. Can smoke indoors. Cons Atrocious traffic during peak time, and public transportation is bad. Weather is either hot or raining and very humid. You practically drenched in sweat the moment you step out of air cond room. The currency is weak, so everything imported is expensive.
Lotusguy Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 San Jose, CA Pros: - The weather - Fantastic food for every budget and every taste - 30 Minutes to the nearest beach, 3 hours to the mountains - Did I mention the weather? Cons: - Also known as "Man Jose" - Nerd city with no culture or nightlife - but San Francisco is reasonably close - Insane housing prices & taxes - More insane traffic - Militant anti-smoking regulations
TheBaron Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Melbourne, VIC Pros: - Kevin Rudd doesn't live here - Great golf courses (Home of The Sandbelt) - Close to Yarra Valley and Mornington wine regions - Tremendous sporting city (sporting capital of Australia) - Home to the AFL (go the mighty Hawkers!) - Fantastic restaurants and best coffee in the country Cons: - Julia Gillard lives here - Weather sucks balls. Really. Too cold in winter, ridiculously hot in summer and volatile in between - Julia Gillard still lives here - Not as cigar friendly as it should be (how else do you celebrate sporting victories?) - Traffic is bad and getting worse (although not as bad a Syd, you poor buggers) - House prices are ridiculous high
Dara Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 London Pros: - good selection of cigar shops with sampling rooms so you can smoke indoors! - beer is cheaper than Dublin - large number of flights to Dublin - no crime in the financial district "the city" where I live and work - plenty of car porn, think I've seen every modern super/hyper car in the last 3 months (and plenty of classic too, 2 DB5s in the area where I work) - good for flights to cigar friendly locations like Cuba, Worrstadt & Belgium Cons: - it's not Dublin (gf and family are over there) - some of what they call beer over here is stretching the definition to its limit! - "the city" is reputedly the most monitored square mile by CCTV in the world....big brother is always watching - cost of living is very expensive (in fact cost of existing is very expensive) - weather is not conducive to outdoor smoking - annoying gits driving past my apartment at 2am revving the hell out of their Ferrari/Lamborghini/Zonda's and waking me up!
Dirtdigger Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Cleveland Ohio Pro: it's home. We live in a suburb but can be downtown in 20, at the airport in 30 and to the grocery store in 5. The Cleveland sports fan base is also strong. Con's: the weather. When it is hot it is humid and when it is cold, its cold. Nothing like waking up on October 24th to 4" of snow and a power outage
Stalebread Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Paris Pros -- the cafe culture -- beautiful city -- very walkable and with good public transportation -- tons of cultural stuff from the opera and the big museums to very small, say 40 seat, performance venues and store-front galleries -- fresh bread everywhere (even though Parisians say you can't get a good baguette anymore) -- it was easy to become a regular at the cafes and restaurants in our neighborhood -- you can smoke a cigar at any cafe/bar/bistro terrace -- train travel from Paris to London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Marseille and many other cities is easy and fast if not always cheap. Cons -- the winter months are solid grey and overcast and drizzly -- no decent Mexican food -- they all speak French here
bassman Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Phila, PA Cons- high taxes, incompetent government & school board, high crime. Pros- good restaurants & I can walk to the train that takes me to the airport.
TM-US Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Lots of Canadians here! Philadelphia, PA here. Pros: Close to NY, Baltimore and DC. No more than 3 hr. Drive. Inexpensive housing compared to NY and DC. Decent restaurant scene. Traffic isn't ridiculous like DC or NY. Zero cigar tax. Relatively low gas tax and income taxes as long as you don't work or live in Philadelphia. Great gun laws. Great hunting and fishing nearby. Cons: Same as living in any big city- incompetent corrupt local government. High taxes in the city. High property taxes and school taxes outside the city. Bad sports fans. It's not NY by any means. I would not consider moving, however, unless there was a lucrative job offer.
Laxman Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Boca Raton, FL (in between Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale), Pros: -Weather is amazing 9 months out of the year (July to August hot and humid but after a few years you get used to it) -Cost of living is cheap (no state taxes, huge bang for you buck property wise) -Beautiful beaches- right down the street -Beautiful women, who were bikinis all year around pretty much -Great quality of life, pretty laid back, sun is out all the time no dreary winter months, low taxes with no state tax -A lot of direct flights, NYC is 3 hours, 30 min to Bahamas and under 2 hours to all the other islands, LA is 5 and half hours but no interest going there. - Surprisingly decent restaurants -5 minute commute to work -Sports car capital of the world, I see more Ferrari's and exotic cars I day then I did in 8 years in New York City Cons: -too many old people that cannot drive if their lives depended on it -Horrible sports fans, hard to find people to watch games with or talk about sports with -Everyone is from the North East, people are rude -Being close to Cuba you would think access to quality Cuban cigars would be easy but all the Cuban Cigars I have come across have been fakes -Not much a sense of community, everything is strip malls -Public school system is not great and private schools cost over 20k a year from kindergarten through high school -A ton of people from South America, go 40 minutes south and no one speaks English even in the stores -Feels like Los Angeles, all the woman have had tons of cosmetic surgery, 70 year old man with 25 year old woman(probably not a bad thing if your 70 years old) way too many golddiggers, very fake Overall you cannot beat the weather, cost of living, and beautiful beaches. Grew up in the North East and lived in New York City for 7 years. Do not miss the cold weather, miss the culture. Don't miss the crowding, traffic, insane cost of living. Miss the great sports teams and sports fans, amazing restaurants, change of seasons, outside the city the suburban towns are a great place to raise a family.
dangolf18 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 San Francisco: Pros: Beautiful, European-esque city. Great restaurants (very ethnically diverse). 1 hour drive to wine country. Lots of outdoor activities. Awesome hiking. Skiing is closeby. Transporation is rather good (but not as good as in Europe). Very fit city and a lot of high-paying jobs. Standard of living is very high. Cons: Extremely liberal. Lot of old money (and dot-com money). Porsches, BMWs, and Mercs and dime a dozen. High taxes and cost of living. Around $700,000- $1 million for 500 sq ft. (45 sq. meters) studio. Crap public schools (at least within San Francisco). Private high-schools cost around $40,000 a year now. K-8 private is now $30,000+ a year. Also, SF has a ton of homeless people. Parking is a ***** as well. When you do find parking, $0.25 will get you 4 minutes. Expect to pay $3 per 20 minutes in a garage downtown.
Skyfall Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Cleveland Ohio Pro: it's home. We live in a suburb but can be downtown in 20, at the airport in 30 and to the grocery store in 5. The Cleveland sports fan base is also strong. Con's: the weather. When it is hot it is humid and when it is cold, its cold. Nothing like waking up on October 24th to 4" of snow and a power outage CONS: No Hilton Hotel in the entire city! Booooo! "Mistake by the Lake"
Troels Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Copenhagen Pro: Nice scale, old charming houses. Cosy Safe, few homeless or really poor people Lively when the sun is out - great to sit along the canals and the harbour for a beer or a coffee, relax and watch people Young population adds to the bar scene and cafes. You'll find open bars all night, and theres a fair amount to choose from Best airport this end of Europe Great beaches within the City, as well you can swim in the harbour Bikes is the preferred form of transportation, wich brings life and a nice pace to the streets The number of larger cultural institutions has grown a lot lately - as well as high end restaurants A fair amount of film- food- and music festivals Population rising and growing business has brought development to most parts of the city, so you get a feeling of a more coherent city than you used to 20 years ago - wich means a lot when you go by bike Cons: Nov, dec, jan! a pathetic winter with more rain than snow, but still moist, overcast and cold Tiny compared to most capitals of the world, so we have dont endless restaurants, bars, neighbourhoods to choose from, like in NY, Berlin or many other cities - doesnt have that buzz or hectic feel to it anywhere in the city Village like - sometimes in mentality as well - some social scenes is rather small Expensive to eat, drink and live in Lacks good budget restaurants Terrible smoking laws - and cigars in particular is a very rare sight All in all a love it here - was I still a bachelor I would like to have a few years in one of those major city that has it all and people from all over the world, but this is perfect for my family now
