ajgagnon Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I just had another P2 from a box I brought back from Santa Clara about 18 months ago. It was wonderful-- rich, spicy, oily wrapper, perfect draw, and although it took some time to hit its stride, it only got better until the band had to be removed to make way. This cigar was probably under-enjoyed though because I was doing too much while smoking (working on a motorcycle ignition switch, putting a sander back together, etc), which is only a shame on me for not giving this cigar its due attention. Nevertheless, I missed a tiny bit of the 'wow' of some previous examples I've had from this box. Could it be that these were blended to have relatively young and lively? Luckily there are 10 or so left to find out...
oliverdst Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Hello, Atchbo, I will not vote because I never had and aged PSP2 but the ones I had fresh were really, really good. I have 3 boxes of it.
Upmann2009 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Never have the age one but the fresh one from 12 are need some more time. 22 left to age. I vote no. Cheers Jason
ramon_cojones Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 No idea, have had fresh and aged and really dislike this cigar as it's not true to the marca.
olotti Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I've loved the P2's I had when within the 2yr mark very smooth spice almost fruitcake like spice and yes very diff from the boldness I get from D4's. I've always smoked the P2's within that 2yr mark for my taste anyway that's when they were good so I smoked em.
bamadoc77 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Amazing when aged. Had one the other night from 05 original release. Buttery bread flavors. Best cigar I've had this year. 2
nikesupremedunk Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Still haven't had a PSP2 or an Upmann 2. I'm sure I'll try it one day though...but until then I can't give my thoughts.
ramon_cojones Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 go with the upmann though there really isn't any pyramid that I would buy over and over, unico is alright too actually the psp1 blows them all out of the water but they're $$$ (and it's a petit)
SigloVI Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Agreed. Although I don't consider 5 or 6 years aged, thats the oldest one I have had...so who knows what will happen in 10-20 years...? Is there a time frame where a cigar is considered aged vs vintage?
Ptowncigar Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Ive only had P2s that were 3 years old or less, and I do enjoy them. And agree, doesn't taste like the other partagas cigars.
mash Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I have a box from '06. Aging has done wonders for them. I find these have a real bite when young. I bet if you sit on these a bit you'll like them even more. 1
Laxman Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I have a box of from 08 that are smoking great now. They smoked surprising well out of the box when I first got them. I love the Partagas line of cigars and the P2 does not taste like the rest of the marca. From some reason I love pyramids, the upman 2 being my favorite by far then the P2 and Monte 2 (when they are on they are amazing). Need to get a few more boxes of P2's but I rarely see any PSP boxes in LFTH or LFTW. I guess I first started smoking Cuban cigars back in 1997 when I worked on the New York Mercantile Exchange. There was a guy that made a living off selling Cubans to all the traders. For some reason he mainly had Monte 2's and CORU's. I smoked a ton of both back then. Not sure if I was new to Cuban cigars back then or the quality of both cigars was amazing in the late 90's, but for me at least, rarely does anything in the recent production of both cigars compare to the the ones I had back then.
mk05 Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 A lot of folks are enjoying the '05 and '06 now, as they seems to have turned around the corner perhaps...but the PSP2 never did anything for me.
seamus Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 With Partagas being my favorite marca I was excited about the P2 but never really got into the. Never been my favorite vitola though. Maybe its time for a revisit.
jedipastor Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 For me it's the opposite. The fresh ones I've had have all been good, but the 2008 samples I've had were quite a bit better.
sengjc Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 There's something in the P2 that convinced me to stash some boxes away of these from the batch years of 2007 - 2011. I only stopped at 2011 because I think I have enough. Being a relatively new release, there is not a lot of empirical evidence to determine with certainty that this line is age worthy. That said, I read somewhere that the Cubans prefer to enjoy their cigars fresh and cannot comprehend why the rest of the world would want to age cigars.
ajgagnon Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 That said, I read somewhere that the Cubans prefer to enjoy their cigars fresh and cannot comprehend why the rest of the world would want to age cigars. That's part of what generated my question. I think there are cigars that are meant to age and ones that are meant to have young and lively. Based on my last P2s, I was starting to wonder if these aren't best young. I'll just have to keep smoking to find out!
Poohdawg Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I have not had many of these but I smoked an 06 last week, it was the last of the five stix that I purchased that year. The draw was awful, extremely tight but the flavor was awesome. If I'd had another I would have tossed this one and started over, but I didn't so I struggled through about half of it until my head started hurting and gave up. If I recall correctly these definitely improve with a bit of age.
alloy Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I have two left (out of a box of 10) from a POS Jul 06 box. They have smoked pretty good. I can't imagine them fresh though.
LLC Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Is there a time frame where a cigar is considered aged vs vintage? As soon as a cigar is rolled it begins to age but for a cigar to be "aged" is quite subjective and opinions will very. Best to try cigars from the same box over many years to see how they progress and learn what you like.
mikek Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I have noticed over the years some cigars hit A slump at A certain point only to come back better latter on. Has anyone else experienced this?
ogus Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I don't know how long it takes for these but these were my worst cigars last year.
Maplepie Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 haven't touched a P2 in over a year now so i didn't want to vote. clicked the 'Show Results' button and fell over laughing never has this forum agreed so hard on something!
