nikesupremedunk Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Here's a spin off topic from the "What's your plug rate per box" thread. I just clipped a RyJ Short Churchills and took a test draw...complete wind tunnel. And I mean a COMPLETE wind tunnel, it has a better draw than a straw. The weird thing is, the stick feels normal when squeezed, and the foot and head is nicely packed. You would think it would have a tight draw if anything. I usually don't have too many wind tunnel issues with CC's, but this box of RyJ SC and my Trini Robo T's have had mostly loose drawing sticks. I feel like most of the box has had loose draws. Now that I think about it, any non-box pressed robustos I've had the most issues being a wind tunnel. PSD 4 also comes to mind. To answer my own question in the topic, I think my rate is dependent on the vitola and how it's packaged. Usually don't have any issues with <50 RG cigars.
Duffvader Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I have the same issue with my R&J wide churchils which I was surprised about. My short churchils are all fine with a perfect draw but the wide churchills were proper wind tunnels which put me off my smoke just a little. Like you the stick was packed so I'm not quite sure why they are like that.
Bolismoker Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 I don't have a firm answer for your original question. However I feel I've been lucky in this way as I don't remember getting too many wind tunnels. I wonder if the fact that I almost exclusively use a punch cut helps or not?
nonameno Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Hi Fellow FOHers, Is the wind tunnel an affect of the cigars being underfilled? Thanks, Curtiss
AussieCanuck Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Had the same issue with a Partagas Serie E. last night. Really annoying. However, not as annoying as the Siglo I I gave to my buddy that was completely plugged !
Skyfall Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I tend not to have too many wind tunnels across the board. However, I am at a 95% rate for wind tunnels with Boli Rc.
Smallclub Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Hi Fellow FOHers, Is the wind tunnel an affect of the cigars being underfilled? Thanks, Curtiss Yes, absolutely.
nikesupremedunk Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 So I smoked that SC earlier...and it smoked like an NC (windtunnel, no surprise). The burn was also uneven, it was rolled more to 1 side. Luckily, I was having a conversation with a buddy and wasn't really paying attention to the cigar so I was satisfied with having something to puff on. The cigar didn't feel/look underfilled though. I guess you can't judge a cigar by its looks.
Oscar300 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 All my recent PD4's, but to be fair I would rather have them loose then tight.
joeypots Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Trinidad Robusto Ts. My whole box was terrible. I started to clip just the smallest divot I could manage to make the draw hole as tight as possible. Didn't do much good. I have a box of Monte Sublimes and the one I smoked had a loose draw despite feeling like a well packed cigar. A fantastic cigar and it took a long while to smoke. "06 cab of RASS are just a bit looser than l like but are delicious none the less.
Rushman Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Maybe I'm just lucky. Can't recall the last wind tunnel. Maybe get a plug or two per box but a dry box or stint in the fridge usually clears them right up. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=19.390001,-81.404384
seamus Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I can't remember the last overly loose cigar I had where it wasn't enjoyable and I prefer a tighter draw. Be curious what peoples idea of wind tunnel is. Would a Padron be a wind tunnel?
finecigar Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I think people's definition of "wind tunnel" vary. I prefer a cigar to be slightly on the tight side, so anything that may be regular or perfect for others I may consider to be a wind tunnel. Agreed with you on that.
SigloVI Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Personally I haven't had any issues with this. Lately every cigar I've been pulling has been spot on. Someone mentioned a plugged siglo I...unfortunately I've experienced too many of those
