nikesupremedunk Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I'm pretty sure I know what this is, but only by process of elimination. Will be sending you an email Rob. Appearance: Dark wrapper, sort of EL ish, non box pressed, very fine veins, smooth wrapper. Aroma at cold: graham cracker, strawberry candy, barnyard Draw: slightly loose Start time: 4:00PM July 3th 2013 First puff: Toasted tobacco, slightly grassiness First third: Hint of honey, grasiness, rich tobacco. Slight bitterness on the after taste. Burn is good, draw is perfect, lots of smoke volume. Second third: More grassiness laced with a hint of twang. Starting to get a bit of sourdough. Each puff seems to be different. Sour green apple also starting to come through. Body seems to be medium. Burn is a bit off here and there, easily corrected with torch. Last third: Not much changed from before. More sour apple and slight bitterness. Hint of sugar on the front of the tongue but slight bitterness Hints of nuttiness starting to set in towards end of the cigar. Finish time: 5:30PM.
Drguano Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I am thoroughly enjoying cigar #2. Rich smoke, great draw and lovely flavor. It is the perfect smoke for this 34°C afternoon in the back yard. I think I know what it is but look forward to picking up a nice box of whatever they turn out to be.
Stanislaw Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 This cigar was puzzling to me as it was obviously a cigar I somehow missed all these years.... Nothing about it was familiar, a great blind tasting challenge.... It had a very dark wrapper, almost non cuban if you know what I mean, and it was an oily cigar to boot, a very impressive sample..... The cold draw was heavy on the black tea notes and left a very tangy taste on my lips which hung around for almost the entire smoke, perhaps a sign that it was young and could benefit from some aging?? This was a schizophrenic cigar experience for me, so many flavors coming from all directions I felt like there were a million voices in my head telling me what cigar it was.... A strong saltiness throughout and a stinging at the back of my throat that hinted that this cigar could be a gem down the line.... Then vanilla but suddenly roasted nuts, this cigar was like a trip to the willy wonka cigar factory..., now get the oompa loompas in here because I consumed this bad boy like veruca salt likes ever lasting gob stoppers..... I hope I'm right about this one, because this was definitely a blind tasting for me this round....
Ghabanos Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 So delicious I didn't want to put it down even when I nubbed it and fingers burning. Smooth start and spice bomb finish. No idea what this was whatsoever. Looked like bolivar. Smelled like choix supreme. Tasted like hoyo. Fragrent like juan lopez. Delivered like a RASS. Finished like a D4. Certain that it wasn't trini. Was it a monte? I have said too much already.
Jeremy Festa Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I said to another forum member on Instagram I had no idea what the first one was and that Robustos were my 'go-to' vitola, so I liked my chances for cigar No 2. And now I am pretty sure I have never had one of these. So my semi-educated guess using a method of deduction means this will be a 50/50 chance. Fairly spicy, yet very floral. The aromatic perfume is noticeable just smelling it burn. By appearance it is easy HQ nearing PSP with the glossy and oily wrapper. I dig this cigar big time! Cheers Rob! Will definitely be getting a box! A perfect Sunday arvo blaze!
amosnaim Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 man this challenge is tough... BTW, mine was with a much lighter wrapper than the pics above. i was debating between two cigars, finally decided on one of them and submitted. cheers Pres, and good luck to all.
Strada Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Alright so my pick is in, here is my thoughts: 1st: Spices, sourdough medium body and a good cigar. As I finish the first third, I walked in the kitchen to see where Eve was at with her Chicken Curry Sauté and I soon as I walked and smelled the spices Boom! This cigars transformed to pure cherries and that completely messed up my first pick idea... I decided to bring out some coffee beans to clear my nose of anything else 2nd- After the initial flavour change, I got some more spices on the retro-hale, some leather and bread, ginger bread... quite good but you can tell it's not old. It is from a good year I would say 2012 if I had to be pushing it lol 3rd- The bottom of it built up nicely and was at medium/full. Spices remained present and the dough/bread/ginger are gone. It need more attention to the burn and a fe relight which made it burn a bit hot. Overall a cigar I really enjoyed, sat nicely with some Talisker 10 also
Rye Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Well, before lighting, I've narrowed it down to a couple choices... After I forgot much of a cold draw, as I was distracted by my dog, it came out of the gate reminding me of an old Nestlé Quik commercial; "It's so thick, and rich, and chocolatey, that'cha caaaant drink it slow" wow! It's eerie calm and humid out, but the clouds look as if they are trying to form funnels, so I move to the front porch so not to be worried if it rains. Smoke volume is huge and creamy, while the strength increases. Very rich I like it! I have reserved my judgement until the finger-burning end. Very nice!
nikesupremedunk Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Rye, where can I get some of the Montecristo Robustos you smoked?
Rye Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Rye, where can I get some of the Montecristo Robustos you smoked? It's called a Master... Stay far... Verrry far...

Rob - are u playing favorites? Lol j/k
Tino Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 I didn't have much luck with construction on mine. It was tightly packed with a thin wrapper, some green spots and it split open after the first third. Aroma at cold and first third was pretty sweet and mild, but I felt a build up of power and spice throughout the smoke. I don't think it's something that I smoke regularly, so have taken a punt based on a gut feeling. I probably listen to my gut too much
Habanos2000 Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Smoking mine now. Nice burn, great cedary and sweet cherry Flavors coming through. Not a whole lotta change going into the final third right now but it is enjoyable. Definitely not in my current rotation but I'd be happy to have this smoke in the future. My guess is on the way!
Wil Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Mine was a nice looking cigar. A nice oily wrapper with a slightly red hue. Draw was a little tight. Opened on the lighter side with some cedar and floral notes. Stepped up to medium in the second and final thirds with richer tobacco balanced with a nice acidity. This was a very good cigar with potential to be great with a few more years. That said, I'm stuck between two and less than confident with my guess. I'm pretty sure I haven't had this cigar before.
Sutton Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 Well after a day of working on the farm changing sprayer tires and cutting the grass at home for a hr. I made myself a margarita and smoked the cigar . Probably not the best idea for a blind tasting. I usually drink water when I'm trying to get all the tastes. But anyways. Here it goes Draw at cold a very familiar spice and a hint of clove. First 3rd ; well of course a beautiful spice coming trough with some toast & leather 2/3- building on complexity with more rewarding spice 3/3-full bodies smoke, some what young. same flavours coming in. Have a pretty good idea what it is. Email on route.
NJP Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 ***** single malt infused Robusto this time. It is everything this Marca rewards me with. Bold, masculine and generous. I like edges in a cigar and this has some sweet geometry. For me this is Cuba and thinking of geography I'm leaving Japan and going back to Scotland. Where is my Glenmorangie.
khamy Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Set aside yesterday afternoon to give this cigar a once over. Fortunately it was a beautiful sunny winter afternoon in Sydney. Started with a few bottles of Little Creatures Pale Ale - fantastic beer and chased it with a couple more bottles. Lunch was served, it was roast chicken with a peri peri/thai style smothering and paired with a sav blanc. Desert was an almond cheese cake and more wine. Fell asleep. I will try and leave work early and try this again today.
mbrody Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Dark wrapper, looks divine. However, wind tunnel. Burns hot, wonky, harsh flavors - maybe very dark espresso. Had to pitch it half way. Will make a complete guess...
ckearns Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Construction Pretty much perfect. Dark chocolate and a nice oily sheen. Opening 3rd Sweet – Dry – Tastes thick – Heaps of smoke – Bitter (in a good way) – Bitter greens to be more specific (radicchio?) – Perfume – Dry roasted nuts Second 3rd Bitterness has turned the corner to rich tobacco – Leather – Quick burn touch-up – Neutral – Lost its way? – Burn issues working through a stem – Soy sauce – Floral Third 3rd Strength has really picked up – Bbq – Slight bitterness has come back – Leather – Cream – Wood – Rich tobacco – Chocolate – Raisin – Heaps of smoke again – Fried rice All in all a pretty enjoyable cigar and a real roller coaster of flavours. This cigar definitely didn't seem familiar. I’ll have to ponder this one for a bit and then take a stab at a guess. Thanks again, Rob. Great contest.
