CaptainQuintero Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Funny, I thought I was the only one who did this. Every time I think about other cigars, I think in terms of how many rass I can have. I think it's a sensible rule too, I have the same automatic mental balancing with QDO Coronas for regular sticks and Sir Winnies for any new special release. eg how many Sir Winnie could I get for a single RyJ Reserva, the answer would be 4 if both were sourced in the UK :S
CBL Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 I can never get excited about RASS, but because of the amount of people that love them I always find myself in a B&M staring at them for a while trying to balance the recommendations vs. the bad experiences. I'm still hoping that one day I'll finally get to taste that one majestic RASS that most people seem to be talking about. One day....
fokker4me Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I bought a few boxes recently of 2012 anyone have any input on how long to age these based on previous years.
CanuckSARTech Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I bought a few boxes recently of 2012 anyone have any input on how long to age these based on previous years. Aging been's much more quick but variable with post-2008 stuff. If you've got a quality box of 2012 RASS, some start enjoying them right away. But, IMO, they should be great with only a year on them, and stellar after 3 years (older RASS, you couldn't touch / really enjoy their full potential until 3 to 5 years on them at least).
Phillys Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I have a box of HQ (maybe PSP) Rass from 2012, extremely oily, and dark. At first I disliked them, something about the profile was a turn off for me, only 3 months of rest time and now they are glorious. One of my favorite smoke!

I couldn't agree more!!, my 07 and 08 boxes needed 3 or 4 years to get into the groove, but they still lacked the richness and complexity of the blend that I taste in the 12s. The July 12s I bought recently are already good at 10 months and although good now, I believe they will be glorious in a few years. I have another box of 2012s on the way and am going to put 2 boxes in a juan lopez 50 cab and keep the 3rd dress box to smoke now.
nikesupremedunk Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Had one of the '12's last night as well. Probably been a little over 6 months now since I got them and it's getting better and better. I'm kind of sad that I already smoked 2/3 of the box, and feel like I smoked them immaturely.
Ophidion Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Every rass I've had seems to get good after 90 days rest in the humi, very good after 9 month and insane after a year. No matter what box code or year I always experience the same thing.
nikesupremedunk Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 For me it was: amazing ROTT, didn't like them after a couple months, after 6 months finally getting better again. Hopefully I don't dig into my other box until 3 year mark.

My first box of rass, I did the same thing smoked it within a year and towards the end it was just getting glorious. Now I've learned my lesson bought 2 box of rass, one for deep hibernation and second to be smoke now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
winelover Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I find RASS temperamental. When "on" they are unrivalled and deliver in spades. Sometimes the freshies are approachable ROTT but just as often sick in my experience. Nothing quite like a sick RASS smoked on an empty stomach! Better to buy and hold for 2.5yrs+ and for me they really get better with age as they smooth out and truly blossom. Smoking an August 10 stick as I type and enjoying it 88/100. In a year or two 92+
mychetboy Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 I just wanted to express my graditude to all those whom replied to my posting. I blind bought a box of SEPT 2012 RASS and the aroma was awesome. I plan on smoking one in Sept 2013 to give it a while to settle in the humidor then check in on them every 6 months. Cheers! Rob
Upmann2009 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I was never a big fan of RASS, even though I tried to crack it by went through than half a box already. Yesterday ( sat 1/6) was raining and roughly 16 c and 75% humi, the first puff of RASS (sab may 12) was blowing away and I know it was going to be a awesome smoke, and it was. I though I just crack it open, I was smoked it very slow and and long draw (not fast). The flavors are there everything even better than PSD4 (my very favorite CC). I will have another RASS just to make sure soon. I think my patience rewarded. More RASS in the next order for sure. Jason Ps, the end of last 3rd was very strong in term of flavor so I smoke xtremely slow to maintain the pleasure. perfect for few years sleep.
TM-US Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 RASS are very hot and cold for me. I've smoked some truly phenomenal examples which I really enjoyed, but my last HQ '10 box was truly awful. 90 days from receipt they were light, no flavor, nothing cigars, like a really light Davidoff. I gave them 6 more months and they were still the same. Another six months and they're still horrible. I will not smoke these for at least another year at this point and hope they improve. I need to get another box so I find some smokeable sticks like the excellent ones I've had.
jrb5783 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I love RASS I've burned through a box and a half in a year and I just got this RASS 50 cab MUR MAY 12 I'm gonna try to keep my hands off of this but I'm sure by the year end half will be gone
EZ1 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Never had a good experience with these, maybe it was just bad luck, but they always seemed monotone in flavour, I love RA, but this one seems to be elluding my taste buds
semifan1 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I like the RASS more then the BRC's I have. Like others have said with some age they have gotten way better.
