Perla Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hi everybody I need help. A while ago I bought this nice box of LGC Med. #1 unfortunately the box was without the cardbox. Inside of the box is a stamp 93. Any idea what the boxing year could be?? Any help is highly appreciated. Here some pics: Outside of the box Havanna seal Inside of the box The cigar band And last but not least Tarrraaa the sleeping beauties
mk05 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 90% sure you probably have the '98s or the early '99s, as those are the most readily available.
tmac77 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Maybe just me but I have never seen packaging like that before with the metallic plaque on the exterior and medalion inside on any of the LGC Medaille D'or Series
Perla Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 Maybe just me but I have never seen packaging like that before with the metallic plaque on the exterior and medalion inside on any of the LGC Medaille D'or Series Me either, never seen this before. But it is a trustful source and on the backside is an official note of the importer Intertabak.
AndrewNR Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 My newer box has none of the metallic stuff either.. odd.. great cigars though!
frenchkiwi Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Sticker/plaque thing just looks like some importer add-on. Maybe the box was indeed selected for quality - they certainly look the part. If they are from 99-02, or even '93 as the stamp *could* indicate, it'd be interesting to know what they taste like. They generally age well so could be your lucky box! Let us know! (a pretty mild fragrant smoke for the first half or so, best smoked on a clean palate).
CanuckSARTech Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Maybe just me but I have never seen packaging like that before with the metallic plaque on the exterior and medalion inside on any of the LGC Medaille D'or Series I think I remember seeing this on some MdO boxes in the late 90's, which would put the boxes early-to-mid-90's timeline, based on my boss' buying habits at the time. But, I'm not 100% on this at all. He used to buy singles from LCDH Yorkville, and then most full boxes from Switzerland, so that does seem to fit here.

bassman Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Never seen that metalic plate either. Probably added by vendor or distributor. I'm currently smoking a fabulous box from 99.
Puros Y Vino Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 The gold stickers appear to be a bit of "flourish" added by the vendor I'd say.
almudawi Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Shouldn't pre 1994 boxes have the cubatobacco stamp at the back opposed to the Habanos one? Just a thought
Perla Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Shouldn't pre 1994 boxes have the cubatobacco stamp at the back opposed to the Habanos one? Just a thought That was a good hint! Thank you! Just lurged into Trevors and Alexanders page. Habanos seal is from 1994 - 2004 and the warranty seal between 1962-1999.
smokinpeace Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 This thread forced me to break out one of these from '99. Glorious.
Perla Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Keeping my promise to write a review about LGC #1. As it is since weeks very hot here and the humidity very high as well. I laid the stick for one hour outside the humidor (well a very long hour) Paired it with spring water. Draw was perfect, not too tight, not too loose. Stick was firm but not too firm. Opening is very fruity and floral. Hints of leather. Strength is mild - medium. Ash is very loose. Hmm forgot to make some notes. A perfect cigar to dream a long. Watching the birds in the sky and leave God a good men.Taste of chocolate, some vanilla. Oh dang the end comes closer. How time flies when you are having fun. A nutty dark chocolate taste paired with dried apricots and thyme. Hmm very nice. It's such a nice smoke, very complex, tasty. I could smoke a bit longer may be 10 cm extra. So sad it comes to the end. Push the band as far as I could, with the result the wrapper is gone, but who cares. Very very nice smoke, its hard to resist not to grab another.
Zacapa Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Great review! Makes me want to search some out - pity the LGC brand is going the way of the dodo
dangolf18 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Nice. These must be from a Swiss source...considering the German, French, and Italian warning sticker.
Strada Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Great review, great box and now you have created a need for me lol
Nino Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Great review and pictures, Perla - thanks for sharing ! I've seen those kind of "number stamps" on many boxes bought in Switzerland ( but most all on the bottom, not inside the box ) and believe them to be from Intertabak, the importer. I'd guess the box is late nineties. I'm sure our friend Urs down by "Lake Portmann" ( Bodensee) would be able to help you with a more precise extimate.
dvickery Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 the habanos chevron and habanos stamp(as opposed to "cubatabaco)went on all boxes by '95...alpha numeric seals started jan'00. without an original receipt...my best guess...sometime '95 to '99. derrek

Hi Nino, Well I bought the box from Urs ... but he couldn't help with the box date. I do not mind these are very yummy cigars.
