Munts Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Today is Valentines day. I was wondering what people are doing for it or if indeed they partake in it. My wife and I do not partake. We really dont need to be reminded by commercialistic interests that we need to express our love, by buying each other a giant card, or spending a fortune in a restaurant or on roses, on a specific day. As far as we are concerned. Every day should be Valentines day.
Ghabanos Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Hands down worst day of the year. But many women love it. I don't get it. I'm with u munts.
rckymtn22 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I am in the same boat as baragh. Saving my money for cigars!
dpodiluk Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Stoopid Hallmark holiday... Not like I save up my loving for just one day a year. I love my dear wife and son and no $50 roses are needed.
Rushman Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 My wife are currently apart as she is taking care of the store in Mexico and I'm working in Cayman. Therefore, one dozen red roses coming up! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=19.307876,-81.379159
brazoseagle Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Made 3 dozen cookies and Valentines cards tonight for my son's parent's day out class party tomorrow. For Valentines this year I will be cooking dinner for my 3 year old, reading him a book, bathing him and putting him to bed, just like every other night now.
mk05 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Get a call. Conversation starts with her saying "sooooo..." it's a trap
First Lady Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 My husband and I call it Happy Hallmark Day as well ..... I would rather Frank give me a bunch of flowers just out of the blue instead on this day although I am not holding my breath for him to bring flowers home any day soon Going out for dinner tonight is crazy...trust me 15 years of working Valentines cures me of this day....yuck
Ghabanos Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Don't get me wrong. What I think about it has no bearing on if I buy flowers or not. If it makes my wife happy I comply - in this particular case

Have yourself a good Cuban cigar. For me my wife and I had lunch and now I'm having a Bolivar Royal Corona.
seanbeer Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 what if you wife buys you a box of Monte2 every year as the V day gift? I am sure you will buy the idea.
Ghabanos Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Happy wife happy life, nuf said! Amen. Just not very good at it. Lol
Hazza Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 We don't really partake in any major way. One year we said not to do anything, so I followed the rules. Then when she got me a card and I got her nothing, I was in the poo. Now she gets a card, even if she says not to.
Puros Y Vino Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 We don't buy into it either. Restaurants jack up their prices, they're too busy and completely kill the chance of a quiet night out. Idiots walk around trying to sell a rose for a crazy sum. All I do is cook something special and she handles the dessert. As many of you said. It's a "Hallmark" day. I also don't give into the wearing "red" at the office either. Tonight we'll crack open a bottle of Cava with dinner, I'll make some lemon pasta and wahoo as the main.

IcedCanuck Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Lets not forget about September 19 rrrrrrr me mate
canadianbeaver Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Matthew and his brothers used to say "my parents don't believe in VD, Mother's Day blah blah and I said you better call her. His father did not get her a card or a flower etc. I said he was going to be sorry and he said I was crazy. I said fine. At 10 o'clock that night the phone calls started with the lectures about taking for granted, who do you guys think you are, don't ever forget again yadda yadda yadda. Thought Matthew was going to have a stroke by the time he hung up the phone. Do yourselves a favor. You who spend hundreds on cigars every month. Do something.
LGC Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Forget the cards that will go in the trash. Flowers are nice, but will eventually go in the trash as well. I prefer to go with a nice, home cooked meal and wine.

OZCUBAN Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Hi all My wife and myself do not partake in St Valentines day ,we would much rather spend the money on Birthdays and our Anniversary. IMHO I think if your single you get more of a buzz out of St V's day ,and I need no excuse to be romantic OZ
