Cohiba Stevie Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Short and sweet. My next box will be a 10 pack of partagas 898s or lusiatanias... Ive never owned either but love them both. So FOH I am at your mercy, what will it be? I will purchase whatever is decided in this poll. Many thanks for all your help!
beamer Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 While I haven't had any recent stock Lusis, the 2012 898s I've tried were impressive for their age.
cigcars Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Partagas 898's are ALWAYS superb and right on target. Heavy, decadent, enjoyable and flavorful, giving us that Cuban "twang" flawlessly everytime. Plus, who always has time for a 2 and a-half hour smoke, i.e. Lusitania, anyway??
Cohiba Stevie Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Wow... I was expecting this to be close! 898s are cleaning up!
Habanos2000 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Can't say that I've had a Lusi in a few years now. But I can confidently support buying the 898's. I love them and had quickly moved from buying 10 packs to full boxes in no time! You will too!
Dara Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I think there was a box of HQ Lusi's in the last LFTH thread!!!
BENN Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 For me 898s have delivered much better flavors while the Lusis have always been good they have never been amazing.
dangolf18 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 898. Better flavor imo. Lusis are too large of a cigar for me and honestly they are weak sauce in terms of strength.
mk05 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 recent 898's have been so good, it's a wonder why anyone would buy the aged stuff.
Pilgrims Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Love both but the 898 size is just perfection plus more opportunities to smoke them!!
stargazer14 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Really enjoy Lusi's, but think 898 are more 'appraochable', meaning its easier to reach for them, easier to find the time and a reason to smoke. And they are also really good!
Cohiba Stevie Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 The crowd has spoken! 898s it shall be. Many thanks for all your help folks. Much appreciated. Stevie
mkz Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Lusitanias is a winner in my book. Smooth powerhouse!
kiwiman911 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 good choice 898's is a must have in the Humidor...come to think of it I have to get some more I'm down to my last 4
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I'm only familiar with the pre-1995 versions of these, and both tie for first place - equally enjoyable, but different. (The blends were apparently changed afterwards.) So I can't vote!
markmurase Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I love both, but my vote was for the Lusi. 898's just don't seem right to me in a 10 pack
brazoseagle Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Hopefully you picked up one of the aged 10 boxes of Lusi's from LFTW!!!
bstarrs Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 My vote goes for he Lusis, there were some stellar 2008 boxes available in the LFTW if they are still available.
Cohiba Stevie Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 I think I missed the lusis on on LFTW today. Gutted. Thanks for all your input guys.
bamadoc77 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 You may be able to get Lusi for a while. But if rumors are true the 898s may be hard to come by in the next few years if they make the discontinued list this year.
MrDowse Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Stevie I assumed you were the 'Steve' El Pres was putting those Lusis by for? Going by this thread and the username confusion in the LFTW thread I reckon it's worth asking...
Cohiba Stevie Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Stevie I assumed you were the 'Steve' El Pres was putting those Lusis by for? Going by this thread and the username confusion in the LFTW thread I reckon it's worth asking... I was thinking that myself! I didn't want to jump the gun just in case they were for another Stevie or Steve lol. I hope I didn't cause any hassle Rob if this is the opposite. I have placed an order for a box of 898s anyway which I'm sure I will be more than happy with. Thanks a million guys.
bassman Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Completely different cigars. 898s are much stronger & have more of a pepper flavor. I used to love the pre 95 Lusis, but the only ones since then I thought were above average were early to mid 2008. I've smoked a few of every year 1997-2010.
