Dear Village Idiot.

The H Upmann Monarch is a very fine tubed cigar. I find it stronger than the Winstons.

The H. Upmann Monarca was commissioned by David Tang. Distribution was solely Honk Kong and Canada (David Tang controls distribution in Canada through through PCC). Production numbers are not readily available but estimated at 10,000 sticks. I could confirm for you.

H Upmann Monarca come in SLB Natural (Slide Lid Box) of 25. No other configuration. Nil, Nada, zilcho. All are date stamped NOV 02 from memory.

Possibly the best Churchill of all but I do look forward to you and your 2000 taste buds giving us a review :-D

i am more confused than usual. upmanns are not a producer i have looked at a lot, for no specific reason and now i find i will have to rectify that.

i have been reading the terrific reviews about the Tang commissioned Monarchs (which is the term almost everyone bar mel uses but shouldn't that be Monarcas? On the box it is Monarcas?). have finally got hold of a box so very excited - i keep opening the damn things just to smell them - will smoke one shortly after what will be an all-too-brief period of rest.

have been looking in the books to try and find out what i can about these (don't try googling - all you get is reams on ancient chinese dynasties).

Min Ron Nee is uncharacteristically obscure (at least to me). Monarcas are considered very similar to Sir Winstons but come in tubes, yet the photo he shows is a tube labelled monarch, not monarca? monarchs, he seems to describe as identical to Sir W? the photo of the box of monarcas from 96 is again clearly identifiable as monarchs but Nee seems to suggest that if in a tube, then they can't be monarchs. then we have Sir W's?

rudman raves about the monarchs (which he says come in tubes and boxes of 25) but makes no mention of monarcas (are these sort of like superman and clark kent and one and the same and rubes like me are left thinking that they are two discrete cigars?). i understood from discussions with a local (no names, rob) that monarchs didn't come in boxes of 25 and that only the tangs were in boxes of 25. del Todesca notes both Monarcas and Monarchs with the former the more powerful but obviously likes both.

can anyone clarify (no doubt Habanos will have officially discontinued the lot but still be making them)?

Have either you Ken or Rob smoked one of these lately, the Tang version that is? I am thinking about burning mine. Thanks in Advance.

by pure chance, we discussed them in detail in the video we did yesterday. no spoilers though the fish fraud did admit his complete and total lack of knowledge. though i bet that gets edited out.

Awesome I look forward to it. I know of a box, worth buying?

I have a box of 2007 Monarch Tubos. Glorious cigars and different than Sir Wintons. The Monarchs are more traditional Upmann, where as the Wintons are more refined graham cracker goodness. If I had to describe the Monarch Tubo to an Upmann lover who had never smoked one I would describe it as a long skinny version of the Upmann No. 2, with the volume turned down from 11 to 7.5. Makes me want to invest in another box, but they take up so much damn space!!!

tangs? absolutely not! but if you wouldn't mind sending me the details of the seller as a matter of urgency...

if they are genuine and in good condition, do not miss them. can't imagine they are cheap - rob and i were speculating on the price today so if anyone knows and prepared to share, be very interested.

Have had a few Monarcas/Monarchs. Much prefer the Sir Winston. Or a Connie 1, for that matter.

Delighted to have been gifted one by the generous MrDowse yesterday. Thank you, good sir! Very much looking forward to trying it alongside a Winnie.
