olotti Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Smoked my last one from 09 prob 6 months ago just wondering if the recent production is as good as the ones I just had. Thoughts? I dont have the inventory or space to stock up so I buy a box, smoke it and then go from there hence why I'm asking if these are still as good as they were.
Diamondog Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 i am current working through a '10 box and they are fantastic...have some 11's and 12's as well...
mbrody Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Haven't tried the 11/12, but the LITH examples looked like beauties... My 09's were spice bombs young, became dumb, and just exploded with strength and are getting richer.
UpInSmoak Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I have a box from May 2011 and I'm hitting 50 percent with them. 2 have been stellar, 2 have been ok. I'm hopeful that the box will end up to be good to great in a few years.

My 09's were spice bombs young, became dumb, and just exploded with strength and are getting richer. This I've experienced kind of like the RASS. My box from 09 smoked so good I rifled through them than layed off awhile and when I went back in 10' they were so bland it was like a bad NC then I smoked the last two last year and they were better than the ones I smoked in 09 when I got the box. I def think the PSD4 goes through that growth period where theyre great out of the box then boring then boom even greater. Good to hear the recent production is good, its my fav robusto next to the BRC.
mk05 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Recent D4s are outstanding. I just got in a couple boxes. I can supply pics of them later if you'd like, but for me, it's all about weight and feel.

Rushman Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I've smoked many 11 psd4's but no 12's although what I have in stock look amazing. I just smoke fewer partagas now, not even sure why. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631726,-87.070655
ramon_cojones Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 To answer op's question I'd say you can't go wrong with recent production. Past years were more of a crapshoot though you will still get some duds I think.
westg Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Have two box's both SMO MAR 12. Outstanding, seriosly the best D 4s I have ever smoked. They have this reddish earthy clay colour to them. Although young, right now, a real pleasure to smoke. Been pairing with a James Squire amber ail or two or three. Have noticed some bad press of late in the forum in regard to D 4s. I can't see what I have lasting beyond a year or two, enjoying them to much. I would grab these over recent Bolivar RC or RASS and definitely over R&J short churchills.Picked up a box of excellent VR Famosos from FOH a few weeks back but the D4s also from here are to hard to go by if you are looking for that particular format.
Jszeto Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Now I wish I had taken advantage of the psd4 sale a week ago.
dangolf18 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 For what it's worth, 2010 PSD4s are smoking very well. The best I've had. The D4s need at least 2 years of age, preferably 3-5 years.

Cohiba Stevie Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 My 12s definitley have a bit of bite to them, im gonna let them sleep and try one every six months to gauge how they are settling down. Previous psd4s i have had only need a year though so im Not concerned at all.
AndrewNR Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I can't remember what year my box is and don't want to wake the misses checking, But I've had one from my box so far and it was fantastic I had another before that which was from a sampler which wasn't so good.. Had me worried about having a box of them! then i tried one from the box and wow!
