GWN Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Heading to Varadero next week on a budget trip (yeah, I know it's hurricane season). Other priorities these days so not flush with cash, so stocking up on 1966s not in the cards. Never been much of an ager and lean towards lonsdales. So what among current production is my best bet or should I just stock up on Gold Medals (if I can find them).
canadianbeaver Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 My fave lonsdale, thanks to JoeP is Rapael Gonzales.
mk05 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 preferably stuff that is hard to find, and/or if it's a good price.
Lotusguy Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Seconded on the RG Lonsdales. Don't forget about Monte #3 as well!
Ophidion Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I have had a few boxes of STA SEP 09 gold medals that have been fantastic so I always suggest those. Also, lgc mdo 2 from recent production have been very good (OGA DIC 11). Recent production 898s have been pretty consistent as well. Consistently good that is.
bassman Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Look for a box of Montecristo #1s with dark, oily wrappers.
Strada Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 898 and BGM have been great. There seems to have a batch of dark 2009 Gold medals around. I got a few box from Varadero myself. Great smokes. Enjoy the vacation time
DMK Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 If you can find any Partagas Culebras... I'd be happy to take them off your hands...
kiwiman911 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 The Boli GM and 898 are really nice but you can't beat the price of BGM and I'm sure they are easy to find
GWN Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 Here's what I picked up, minus the box of VRs for my dad.
Cohiba Stevie Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Good hustle. What was the weather like at this time? I went around november last year which was just the end of the hurricane season and had nothing but searing heat for 7 days... Too hot for my irish skin! I was like a human slice of bacon.
GWN Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Weather was hot but not overbearing. 35C most days and some rain while travelling to the mountains near Trinidad and back but otherwise mostly clear. Third time we've been in Sept. and other than Hurricane Wilma the first year, we've been lucky. Even then, we just spend the one day in our room and ate at the buffet so no great loss..
