Got a two-part question:

Up until 6 months ago I found myself having no problem smoking multiple cigars in a single sitting. I could spend the whole day in the cigar lounges chain smoking cigars, and able to enjoy different flavor profiles of different cigars. However, recently I found that I cannot taste anything after finishing my first cigar (or even the final 1/3 of a very long smoke), anything I light up after (from RyJ to Padron) would taste like soap/burnt plastic/crayon. What happened to my palate?? Anyone experienced the same before?

So I figured if I cleanse my palate in between cigar it would help solve the above problem. I’ve heard about carbonated water and I’ll try it next time, also a sommelier friend recommended soda biscuit but I’m not too sure since it’s for wine tasting. What are your go-to way to cleanse your palate?

Gin & Tonic always does the trick for me!

Best,

Michel

By the way I just smoked the RG Lonsdale that you me gave nearly a year ago. Tremendous cigar! Was it a 2003?

The Mojitos at the Mambo go well with cigars. :ok::lol: Carbonated water definitely works. I;ve heard others mention warm white tea. For a palate cleanse/breath cleanse find yourself a tin of Henry Clay mints. They really do the trick. Smokin' Cigar on Bayview carries them.

Copious amounts of single Malt or Rum do it for me. They actually not only clean my palate, they clean my mind :lookaround:

I guess my first suggestion would be to take a short break from smoking - give your palate and buds a chance to recover.

Aside from that, I'm a believer in the theory that smoking indoors - being subjected to lingering / residual smoke - can

have an effect one one's ability to taste. I even feel, and have asked the question here, that a cigar smoked indoors

can taste somewhat different than the same cigar smoked outdoors.

Smoking a CC after a NC usually cleanses my palate of the previous cigar's offensive flavours.

I almost always smoke outdoors and with coffee, tea, perrier/lime, coke, rum, scotch etc. I find that snacking on things are eating in between things will keep the palate from getting tired and have never had any problems with the flavors of cigars.

Water is disgusting for me while smoking.

Soda water with lime juice works for me.

As a variation of this, I eat a slice of lemon and throw the rind (after squeezing it in the soda water) into the drink. Works like a charm and is a nice alternative to an alcoholic beverage when I go out to eat as well.

Smoke less. Coating your mouth and nasal passages in smoke for hours on end is not natural to begin with. I'm usually done after smoking one cigar indoors... a couple outdoors.

I have heard that when the Fuente's are trying new blends they drink milk with a shot of whiskey between different cigars.

I've used carb water, flat water, green or white tea. I'm good for two smokes indoors and a bit more outdoors if I have time but usually I'm a two per day guy with about 18-20 hours between sessions. For the last few years all smoking has been outdoors. Until then all was indoors and I could sit for hours in my B&M and hang out and smoke and now I know any my palate has improved. All that lounge smoking and lingering smoke was horrible for the palate.

Mostly I drink flat water when I smoke sometimes green tea, hot earl grey if it's cool enough outside. Occasionally I will drink something with sugar while I smoke but not normally.

Sugar destroys your palate. Carbonated water with lemon squeeze works well.

I think it's the sugar, had a Monte A last night, no weird flavor detected as mentioned in the first post

Also Enis suggested fennel seeds and Tom suggested parsley.

Thanks for all the inputs
