capnshazam Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 So after going through the Robusto sampler, and a couple of Monte 2's and RA Extra's, I lit up my second NC this week. It's just not the same anymore...while still good, it was like driving a Honda civic in NYC traffic after taking a few laps around Monaco in a McClaren F1 car. NC's are never going to be the same again Looks like Rob and the gang will be getting a new order or 5 soon
Blackham Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 It's not hard to go back to NC again order the Guants sampler from me
Jason55555 Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 LOL I feel you decided I'd been smoking to many CC since I got my PSD4 from cigar czar I know crazy talk...but I decided to dig into my NC stash and pulled out out a Rocky Patel Old World Res Maduro I really tired to love it but I couldn't it just wasn't the same complexity and Cuban tobacco taste.
CigarAsh Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Welcome to the Dark Side I think we've all been through this. I have 2 or 3 drawers of NCs still in my humidor that is now stuffed with CC boxes. Fortunately I still like the NCs I bought in quantity - they're still good, but just not AS good. I'll smoke the NCs occasionally but I always have that lingering guilty feeling that I'm missing something by not smoking a CC.
TexAg Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 The same has happened to me. After getting my first order and trying them out, I can't simply pick a NC from the humidor and enjoy it like I used to. I'm looking to the future and it laden with Cuban cigar boxes and CC's a far as the eye can see. It's a shame (not really) because I have a few boxes worth of NC's and I'm clueless as to how to rid myself of them (if anyone knows a method please PM me).
esse Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 man, should I have gone with 46s instead of fuente fuentes I bought last week?
88keys Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hey -- I was driving a Honda Civic in NYC traffic just last week. It was kind of fun. But I haven't had a NC in years.
Ginseng Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 NC's are never going to be the same again Welcome to the Dark Side Yeah, what he said. Well, I used to have a decent collection of NCs and over the years, sold off all but a handful of Padrons and Ashtons. As Tom Jones said..."It's not unusual!" Wilkey
cigcars Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Oh, you'll eventually ease back to NC's just to try the equivalent of a hot dog and mustard every now & then as opposed to filet mignon steak ALL the time!!
Ophidion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I will keep smoking certain NCs as I really enjoy them from time to time (Padron, Tatuaje and a few others). My biggest problem with NC cigars is the marketing behind them. When I look at the marketing behind brands like Gurkha, which is basically "our cigars retail for 30 dollars each but you can get an amazing deal on them online for 2 dollars each" it makes me insane. The only brand marketing I don't dislike is that of Padon. They basically don't advertise and they let their product do the talking. I don't know what CC marketing is like because they aren't legal here and as such they aren't marketed. But I can't see it being as flashy and over the top like NC marketing in the US. ...aaaand I went totally off topic.
Len Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 As mentioned, pretty much a CC smoker these days. I have a tray full of some "nice" NC's (Opus, Davidoff, and a few others), but each time I go to the foot locker to grab a smoke I just reach passed those and start opening boxes of cubans to grab what I REALLY want. Eh, what can you say...cuban tobacco is superior in flavor. Proof is in the pudding, i'll happily let those NC's age away or give them away while I enjoy the forbidden fruit.

There's an old African saying; "A good thing sells itself...a bad thing wants advertising". Cuban Habanos have such a centuries long track record of flavor, excellence and enjoyment that they rarely have to do any flash and dance marketing. Their very name says it all, no?
isa Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I have just tried a few NCs and i feel, that once i tried some NCs, i realised that even an ordinary CC has some complexity to it. Its like taking salt for granted in food - once you have tasted food without salt, you realise what a little salt does to your food, even though its taste is not obvious.
Ghabanos Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I have no sympathy. Absolutely none!!! Coz in the end you would enjoyed life and ended up with a great stash of cigars... Cheers to now being enlightened... lol
jpn Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I'm in the same boat. The NC's just aren't the same. I still enjoy a Padron once in a while but not as much since I've been smoking CC's. The only problem is safely acquiring the forbidden fruit without paranoia.
Rider1 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I enjoy my CC's but have way too many NC's to give up on them. I find that when I switch back and forth daily between CC's and NC's, I don't appreciate the NC's so I try to smoke all NC's for a few weeks & then just CC's for a few weeks, etc.. This helps use up my NC stock (and enjoy them) and gives my CC stock more aging time.
Dbone Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I'm in the same boat. My brother calls me a Cuban cigar snob, but hey... I like what I like. Some things I just won't settle for anything but ____ Cigars are of them.
thechenman Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I still continue to smoke both CCs and NCs and generally enjoy the both. It really depends on my mood. I don't ever see myself being an exclusive CC or NC smoker...there's just so much out there to try.
Skitalets Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 man, should I have gone with 46s instead of fuente fuentes I bought last week? Hope you wind up enjoying them, to be honest I've had seller's remorse. :-) But I was not smoking enough of my Opus stash for exactly the reason the OP mentions.
maverickdrinker Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I'll be happy to take anyone's unwanted opus X, anejo or tat blacks. LOL I enjoy NCs for a change of pace. Maybe I just have a cigar addiction.
capnshazam Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Boss try the A.Fuente Gran Reserva Natural, price point is great and the smoke is smooth, creamy, and lush. Haven't tried that one...I still love my avo and fuente opus x though...actually I like anything fuente
